Palaces, churches, squares, and elegance. It retains all the charm of an old imperial capital, minus the players, so it comes across as a bit provincial (which only makes it more charming). The food is super. The people a bit rude but not everyone. Worth a visit definitely.

The most important fact to know about Vienna is that it was the headquarters of an empire that hasn't existed in almost a century. The same is true of a few other places like Istanbul, but Vienna is unique in that it has clung to this imperial history without having a revolution or really learning to move on. That fact makes itself felt in almost every facet of the city's life. You won't find another city with so many gold facades, palatial-looking buildings, and Gothic churches, and the Viennese know it: most of their efforts nowadays seem to be directed at preserving or restoring those structures, that characteristic Vienna "look," when they aren't trying to keep the city looking safe and clean, which it definitely is. My mom's Viennese, so I base that statement on inside knowledge. Most of the older residents cling to their history and are reluctant to embrace outsiders, which is terribly ironic given that it's one of the most diverse cities in the world in language and culture, as would naturally be the case in the former capital of such a vast terrain. (The old empire recognized 15 official languages, and after WW2 it was geographically Eastern Europe, while officially Central.) While the majority of the residents have always been conservative, the city has always managed to cultivate a thriving art scene of young hipsters who are primarily interested in shocking the majority. As a result, you'll find a lot of cutting-edge museums, as well as a cafe scene like nowhere else in Central Europe. Artists like Hundertwasser designed their crazy creations primarily as a big "fuck you" to the city's elites. So it's definitely a great place to visit if you're interested in seeing how history and its consequences can come alive around you.

Vienna is a bitch, but i loved it because it have black eyed peas, and u know how us americanos love our peas. im not talking about the food. haw. r u confused? cus i know i am. oh well. ttyl. luv ya biotch.

Austria is beautiful in general...but Vienna is more.. it's abosolutely lovely..with its houses and palaces and its traditions...and food .....amazing

Vienna is a beuatiful city. It has everything, architecturally, from the Schonbrunn Palance to the Hundertwasser House (talk about extremes!). I only spent a couple of days there in 2003, but they were enjoyable, despite the fact that an ATM swallowed my bank card, and the fact that the hotel my wife and I stayed at was one of the worst ever (lousey service,musty bathroom, and more). Food was good, but overpriced. People were basically friendly. I'd like to go back someday and spend some more time there.

Didn't get to explore the musical side of the city of music as much as I would have liked to, but I took a bike tour around the city and most of the buildings are more modern. In many respects it's just another city. Salzburg's got it beat by far.

Vienna has a lot of great attractions to visit. Lotss of beautiful cathedrals and the people there were a lot nicer than those in Germany. One of the best things about Vienna is its central location to other cities if you are travelling through Europe. It is a mid-sized train ride from a lot of other places. If you are in Vienna, it is imperative that you make a stop in Starsborg. It is flat out beautiful there with the setting of mountains and lakes, Austrian food is OK, not the best. I did get a girlfriend in Vienna - a cute little 4 year old whose Mom worked at a restaurant that I went to every day for breakfast. The little girl taught me how to count to 10 in her native language.

I lived in Austria and loved it. I only lived there for 1 year but I thought it was an awsome experience. I learned a lot of german. I also am 15 so I liked the freedom their. Austria is so safe. Also the public transportation is great. Instead of having to do what I do in America which is beg my parents to take me some where I could just go; my parents didn't mind because they knew how safe it was. I really loved it and would recommend it to everyone. I don't know anyone who doesn't like Austria. In fact I actually like Austria a whole lot more than America.....not that America is bad..AUSTRIA RULZ

I only spent a couple of days in Vienna, but they were great days. In the late summer they have a free film festival, and there's an international equivalent of 'Taste of Chicago' before the films. The food was amazing, and they projected this wild opera movie onto the side of an amazing old building. The entire experience was memorable, and my only complaint was that I hadn't brought a girl I was interested in - because two nights with her in that city and I would have been looking good.
