Palma de Mallorca is the capital of Majorca Island on the Bay of Palma, Spain. Palma de Mallorca is the chief port and commercial hub of the Balearic Islands, and is a well-renowned European resort. Tourism is Palma de Mallorca’s major industry, but craft and furniture manufacturing, as well as textiles supplement it. Founded as far back as the Stone Age, Palma de Mallorca was an important naval base of the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Points of interest in Palma de Mallorca are the Castillo della Almudaina, the San Francisco church, and the Miro Foundation, a contemporary art museum. The estimated population of Palma de Mallorca is 325,000.
