I feel the worst for the Expos. They had the best record in the league and were on their way. They never came close since.

(two stars for a 'not such a bad blooper') I hate to say it- but this 'mistake' faded real fast. . .the fans bitched. . .the fans swore they would never come back. . .the fans claimed they were finished. . .and they all came back like battered trailer park wives who won't press charges. . .all talk/no action - for all its bluster, the game wasn't much effected in the long term. . .and the players and the owners (deep down) must have realized it. . .

one of the four most embarrassing events in baseball history, the other three being the black sox scandal, the pete rose scandal, and the lack of integration in the game prior to 1947. adolf hitler and kaiser wilhelm couldn't stop the world series, but the love of money did. absolutely disgraceful.

A highwater mark for greed in the game. Players, owners, agents.... They all wanted the money, and they all wanted it all.

The new playoff format started in the great year of 1994. My Yankees were riding high with a 70-43 record (second best in the league). We would've gone to the playoffs and won the damn thing. Damn strike.

Not only was this bad for baseball, but imagine what could have been. Matt Williams could have broken Roger Maris' home run record. Tony Gwynn could have been the first player to bat .400 since Ted Williams in 1941. The AL West could have ended with a team with a losing record winning the division. The Braves' division championship streak might not have been as hallowed as it is today. But more importantly, if the Expos had won the World Series that year, they would still be in Montreal today.
