the average person can be quite intelligent they just don't flaunt it or care.

We're all a little stupid sometimes, whether you've been caught in the act or not (more likely, you have). You could be the smartest person in the world and still do utterly stupid things. Usually, it's a matter of forgetfulness or thoughtlessness, which if we were more mindful we would have avoided, but we all do it.

If humans are stupid, what is the basis for comparison? Stupid is a relative term. It's true the people often behave irrationally, and even the most intelligent of us can let emotion and bias override good judgment. Still, we look okay compared to every other life form I've seen. When people say everyone is stupid, they really mean most everyone does not think as intelligently as I do (which is sometimes biased, irrational thinking in itself).

Yesterday I watched a lady walk up to one of those metal newspaper kiosks. She put her money in the slot, opened the door, and was taken aback to see that there were no more papers in the box. She looked in both directions, sighed, slammed the door shut and walked away disgusted... leaving the newspaper in the glass front of the box for the next customer. I don't know if most people are stupid.. but many certainly aren't using all that God gave them to work with.

I make a career out of it.

At differant times in my life I'm sure I've behaved stupidly. That goes for all of us. Some people just make a career out of it.
