 | GenghisTheHun (168) 12/16/2006 | Hide your eyes if you are easily offended by politically incorrect, historically true statements.
This travesty was the culmination of lobbying by the left-Progressive movement that at the time was allied with Fundamentalist Christianity.
The USA has never recovered from the criminal element that was entrenched by this stupidity and also the bad drinking habits that it encouraged much of the population to follow.

 | Mr.Political (18) 05/02/2005 | Although I am not particularly fond of this amendment, I do understand the concern over the liquor consumption that had taken place prior to it's passing. Granted, the 18th amendment was the result of hysteria and only made corruption more rampant than it already was. If for nothing else, this amendment helped to teach Americans the importance of letting calm and cool heads prevail.

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 04/22/2005 | Not a fan of this amendment, but at the time it was passed consumption of alcoholc beverages averaged 2 and a half gallons per yearper person. After it was repealed, it held steady at around 1 gallon per person until around 1954 (the year of my birth).
