 | Mr.Political (18) 05/02/2005 | The notion that you can get rid of a long serving president simply by voting & campaigning aganist him is, although logical in theory, not a valid one. The longer a president serves, the more likely widespread corruption will occur. Furthermore, the last thing a wealthy politician needs is the idea that if they can buy their way to the white house for just one term, they can do it for however many times he or she can fool the public. I will concede that we have similar problems currently, but at least it is kept to a minimum and relatively controlled. Without the 22nd Amendment, however, who knows what would happen to our government.

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 04/22/2005 | Truman was specifically excluded from this amendment, prompted by FDR's violation of the long-standing custom, initiated by none other than George Washington, to check their egos at the door to the White House and serve no more than two 4 year terms.
