He starred in Psycho in 1960. He did such a great job on Psycho that three sequels were made. Some people say that the shower scene in Psycho is the scariest thing that ever happened on film. I don't agree. Movies like Friday the 13th and A nightmare on Elm Street were scarier.Perkins is famous for being the first person to get killed in a Disney film. His death scene in the Black Hole earned this Disney film a PG rating. All of the previous Disney films were rated G. Sadly, Perkins passed away in 1992. He had Aids. I give Perkins a 5 star rating.

He was great in the original Psycho but a terrible, TERRIBLE actor in all the sequels. I don't know what happened to the poor guy.

An actor very much cut from the same cloth as Montgomery Clift, introverted, passive, and somewhat lonely and strange- and also conflicted by his sexuality. 'Psycho' was his signature film- but he played another tortured indivudual in 'Fear Strikes Back'. Interesting also in 'On the Beach'....

I just finished Split Image, a biography of Anthony Perkins. It reveals much about the trials of an actor who could not allow his sexual orientation to smother his acting career, especially back in the fifties. But Mr.Perkins was beloved by those who knew him. That in itself, is a great tribute. And Alfred Hitchcock told him, he was ashamed of Perkins' fellow actors, for not nominating him as Best Actor for Psycho. His later choices? He had a family to care for, and had bills to pay. Loved him as the Quaker, in the drama, Friendly Persuasion. UPDATE! A point of interest: His widow, Berry, was one of the victims of 9/ll. She was a passenger in one of the planes.

He was Tab Hunter's true love! Found his niche playing cross-dressing Norman Bates in Psycho.

I have to say I am shocked by these reviews.Perkins was one of the most amazing artists around. He may have not chosen the best roles, but he is phenomenal.A complete native talent, like Gary Oldman, for ex.Intensity and fragilty in one.Very underrated.

He was a journeyman actor who specialized in playing weirdos. I think he died of AIDS, but I wouldn't swear to it.

A career that rested on two performances: Norman Bates and Jimmy Piersall. Here's another one who should have been given more of a chance by The Powers That Be in Tinseltown.

He couldn't have done a better job playing Norman Bates in Psycho. That was amazing acting talent. I didn't see the other films but saw him on TV a few times.

I will admit that my knowledge of Anthony Perkins is solely from his role in Psycho, and normally I wouldn't comment on an actor whose work I have such a limited knowledge of. But he so impressed me in Psycho! His smile at the end of the film haunted my dreams for years, and still chills me whenever I see it!

Norman Bates was a double edged sword, in the movie 'Psycho' as well as in Tony Perkins' career. Of course, it's one of the greatest performances of all time, but at the same time it really ruined Tony's career. Why not watch Tony in such films as "Friendly Persuasion" or "Goodbye Again" for which he rightfully won much acclaim? Even the Psycho sequels are not all that bad. Tony was an incredibly versatile actor, but is always overshadowed by Bates.

Perkins was born to play Norman Bates - a gift that also made him almost too weird to be completely believable as anything else. I don't really think he was typecast; he just exuded a kind of serene reptilian oddness similar in some ways to the calm, but unpredictable edginess of Jeff Goldblum. He is fascinating to watch but always leaves you with a sense of uneasiness. Still, this kind of persona can be compelling enough to pull you in time and again. Growing up I can remember always being a little fascinated by his films. For a long time that list didn't even include Psycho, which, for some odd reason, I didn't see until I was in my late teens or early twenties.
