A bit of a stretch (make that a lot of a stretch) to call this a boxing movie, but its a hell of a movie, with one of Brando's best performances, and stellar turns from the rest of the cast.

Classic movie dealing with the subject of waterfront racketeering, which was very much in the news at the time it was made. They filmed it in Hoboken, NJ, and used the church my grandmother used to go to for the scenes with Karl Malden as the priest. Brando's performance is still enormously powerful all these decades later, but I also love the performance of Lee J. Cobb as Johnny Friendly...he burns up the screen every time he's on. Also look for a bit part by Fred Gwynne as a dim-witted thug.

Not a boxing movie, per se, but rather, a story about an exboxer, working in a crooked longshoremen's union. A fantastic cast, starring Marlon Brando, Lee J. Cobb, Rod Stieger, Karl Maldon and Eva Marie Saint. The scene in the back seat with Stieger and Brando is classic ( I coulda been a contender), and one of the most famous in filmdom. This was Marlon Brando at his very best. No wonder we liked him so much. Rest in peace Mr. Brando
