A movie about ("old-fashioned") values, the unsophisticated man, and a lot of drinking ;)Well, this could be a value too.Nice characters that you cannot not like. And Randyman, you're absolutely right about Maureen O'Hara ;)

I loved the Maurice Walsh story (I read it in high school) and I loved the movie. It is also my dad's all-time favorite movies (He claims he has seen it over 20 times). He knows every line to every scene to the movie. He could even recite the Gaelic that Maureen O'Hara utters to Ward Bond when discussing her discreet problem about her marriage to John Wayne. And that Fight between John Wayne and Victor McLaglan is one of Hollywood's greatest ever. I second Randyman's opinion about seeing that movie and wanting to up and go to Ireland. I could live in County O'Goldstein.

I like this movie a lot, but I can't bring myself to give it five stars. Beat me up if you like, but the script is more than a touch over-maudlin.

One of my top three movies of all time. What's not to like? John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (The most Woman to ever come out of Hollywood, EVER)in one of filmdoms best matchup as Sean Thornton and Mary Kate Danaher. Toss in Victor McLaglen, Ward Bond, Barry Fitzerald and just a great cast in general. The fight between Wayne and Mclaglen's characters is one of the best ever and stands the test of time, without a doubt. Every time I see this movie I just want to chuck it all, move to Ireland, become Irish and find a typical Irish green cottage. If I thought I could find another Maureen O'Hara, I just might!
