Founded in 1897, Nagano (361,221) is the capital city of the Nagano Prefecture. Nagano is located on the island of Honshu, at the intersection of the Chikuma and Sai Rivers. Nagano played host to the 1998 Winter Olympics and the city is home to Zenkoji, a well-known 7th century Buddhist temple.
