...Good Parts- Excellent historical buildings, both Moghul and British, few nice areas with wide roads and parks, good food, bazaars, college campuses and festivals and an upcoming overhead metro rail system. Negatives - Summer heat, chaos on roads, disorganization, general rudeness. Again, as it is for most of India, you have to be a commited tourist to go through the grind to reach the real stuff.

The air quality is horrible...and many of the people are rude. The summer weather in New Delhi is horrible...sort of like Dallas, Texas or Arizona...120F summer!!! I love some of the great Indian restaurants though.

The first time I went I hated it (but I had chicken pox, stayed in a tent by the interstate bus station, and it was 117 degrees). But really, it's amazing; so many relics from the last 1000 years or so that many (especially, perversely, in "New" Delhi) of them are totally untouristed. Good markets, bookshops run by people who love books (whoa!!! a novelty if you come from England), weird and funky things going on all over the place. But you need time to ease into it, especially if you're an Asia-virgin.

Don't go in December/January - smog is terrible!
