American medical response is in many states, so apparently they overcharge regardless. They transported my mom 1.47 miles (4 min. according to yahoo maps) and billed medicare $655.42. This was AFTER her stay at the hospital returning her to her assisted living facility. When medicare told them to take a hike, they sent the bill to me, with the following note : The service provided by American medical response is not a covered benefit by medicare. The bill is now considered your responsibility. Please send payment in full. I have contacted the hospital and suggested that they not use this service any longer as they are ripping off their patients. If you have been similarly victimized by these crooks, I would suggest you make the same call.

I would give a rating of zero but it's not a choice. They overbill and then call you a liar if you try to question them. Nearly $650 dollars for a seven mile ride to the hospital. I could have been driven in a taxi cab! I have now found that this company has had many, many lawsuits for insurance fraud.
