Shanghai is China’s largest city with a population of 10 million people. Shanghai sits on the banks of the Yangtze River Delta and faces the East China Sea with the Huangpu River bisecting the city. The name Shanghai literally means “up (shang) sea (hai).” Shanghai is considered one of China’s financial and trade centers, as well as rivaling both Beijing and Hong Kong as one of China’s main economic hubs.
