I didn't think much of Adelaide. I thought it too industrial and gloomy. It has a nice climate however. My Aussie sources tell me there is a scarcity of Dingoes in South Australia.

I give Adelaide a 5 for two reasons, one is the market. The produce, meat, fish, etc. where fabulous. For my fellow US citizens, think Pike Street in Seattle, Chelse Market in NYC, Eastern Market in Detroit. If you are a foodie like me, the market is not be missed! Second - it is the gateway to Kangaroo Island. Again for my fellow US friends, think African safari Australian style. Make sure to stay at least one night on the island. Most Aussie animals are nocturnal so take a look around at night to see the best wild life. Several companies offer nocturnal tours - ask you B&B host or hotel manager for recommendations. Also DO NOT MISS the stars at night (actually saw the Southern Cross, almost hurts to look at it is so bright). The best way I can describe the night sky is like someone took silver lame fabric and is gently waving it overhead, it is that incredible. I have work for an automotive company who has plants in Australia, one in Adelaide, so I have the opportunity to visit often. Adelaide is a jewel in the rough, you just have to get off the beaten path and know where to look!

I used to live in Adelade. The thing I remember most about it is the disturbing balls of doom in rundle mall. They're hypnotic and scary. You can find yourself staring at them, battling them as they try to take over your mind. The balls were deployed by Harris Scarfe to try and mesmerise people into going into their store, but they went TOO FAR, DAMNIT!!! TOO FAR!!! Now they've gone out of control, and they're threatening to enslave mankind. The first step in their diabolical plans has already been achieved with the destruction of the resistence movements headquarters at Magic Mountain at Glenelg. WHY GOD, WHY?!? Where will it end...?

This town was a real relief for me. After Darwin and Alice Springs it was a thrill to see the good food in the restaurants. One square mile and about 600 restaurants. Adelaide is into good eats. The Barossa valley is nearby; good winery tours. Quite a variety of things to do. I even found a pistol range right downtown where you could rent guns. I stayed here 5 weeks.

Adelaide seems to have a reputation for being a boring and dull city, maybe because its alot more relaxed and quieter than the other major Oz cities and its so clean and orderly. In many ways it feels like a giant sized country town, but its still a big enough city with just about everything you could want or expect... Just without the stress, hassles and mayhem. Its laid out beautifully with wide, leafy streets and European style squares, and miles of parks completely surround the CBD. I havent seen any city so meticulously laid out. It does really well when it comes to the arts and culture, has a good nightlife, good sporting calendar, and a truly outstanding culinary scene.

I did not think Adelaide was anything special, though the restaurants and nightlife were decent. But the real treasure lies about an hour south of the city -- Kangaroo Island. Its a little pricey to get to, but you will fing the best animal life Australia has to offer on the island. I spotted tons of Koala, emus, wallabies, seals, sea lions, snakes and a host of others. Mahe the effort to visit this island if you are in the neigborhood.

Overlooked gem of Australia. The cleanest best laid out, prettiest and friendliest city in Australia too. We always come back here for the worlds best wines and food. The climate is pure mediterranean and it has a culture and ambience that really no other Aussie city can match. It has the greatest number of pubs, retaurants and cafes per capita in Australia. Actually, Adelaide has 1 restaurant for every 32 people which may be a record?? It has great beaches and it the gate way to the best outback country. I only hope it stays how it is, as some of the other cities (sydney, melb and even perth) have been ruined by tacky devolopment and freeways through the city center! Great place! Go there...
