Perth was not a penal settlement pro se as it grew up based on the gold strike. I think there is more to see and do in Eastern Australia.

Was visting family in Freo and went into town. While it is very similar to many 'western' cities it does have Kings Park. Jacobs Ladder was a struggle though and good luck to all the fitness fanatics who were up and down it.

I've never been to Perth. I have no opinion of it. I don't know if it has anything to offer tourists. I wouldn't have the slightest idea about anything to do with Perth at all. I don't know if there are wedges close to town, so your taking a pretty big gamble going to this city.

What can I say? It is simply the best city in the world to live in.

Perth is a great town - Neat, tidy, orderly and without any big city hassles. Has an almost perfect climate throughout most of the year and some of the best urban beaches in Australia. Suffers from monotonous suburban sprawl, and downtown dies down after dark, but has a bit of everything to appeal to most tastes.

Perth is fantastic except that the urban sprawl has really made the city too wide. Things are too spread out if staying on the fringes of surburbia.
