My son is quitting his job in the U.S. and going to live in Wellington, NZ for one year. He is in the journalism field, but he says he doesn't want to sit at a computer for one year. He already has his work visa and airline tickets. He's 28 and single. Do you think he'll like it. He's a real gypsy. His stepday and I are planning to go and visit him. We live in the U.S.

What a wonderful place with a diverse culture within such a small package. Arts, entertainment, vistas, groovy old residential architecture (weatherboard housing); everything that you could want. The weather here adds to the character of the place. I would have rated it a 5 but the cacophony of vehicle horns from discordant drivers around the city makes me think a bit more patience on the streets would be an asset to Wellington.

This city is immensely superior to Auckland, but still cannot even get close to comparing with Queenstown and is roughly on par with Christchurch. New Zealand's capital manages to be roughly the same size as its Australian counterpart but ten times as interesting. Any tourist to New Zealand should probably attempt to visit Wellington, but do not be too disappointed if you miss it - just as long as you get to Queenstown.

A very charming and culturally aware city. In many ways a more engaging destination than Auckland, despite being much smaller. Has a beautiful setting, lots of interesting attractions, nice architecture and excellent restaurants.

A great city. Be sure to take a tour of the Parliament buildings and learn about their system of government. (Women got the right to vote here first---in 1893.)Also see Te Papa ("Our House" in Maori), their new museum. It's a treasure trove of Maori, New Zealand and South Sea culture. Allow at least one full day, and you won't see it all. It's free, and beautifully done.Wellington is developing a great love affair with the preservation of their beautiful Victorian buildings, after a time of replacing the old with the new. Hope you enjoy this wonderful city as much as I did!
