Niagara Falls, Niagara, New York 4

Niagara Falls is a lovely place. Its eerie how the water is calm until it meets the fall, but again I think kids could be very bored by this trip. I can't speak much for the areas surrounding the falls, but I only visited the Falls and walked around and saw and then left! Still a pretty cool site to see!

I have been living in Cleveland, Ohio (not too far from the Falls) for the past 9 years now and yet it was only recently that I got to visit for the first time. I really loved it! I went up with my girlfriend and her folks (her father had free accomodation overlooking the falls in a casino where he is a regular) and we did all sorts of stuff in just a few days. We went down behind the falls, where you can actually see the water falling right there in front of you. Needless to say that gives you a pretty good soaking but that was nothing compared to the soaking we go on the Whirlpool Jetboat Tour. That goes from down the river and takes you up river through some cool rapids. I must admit that I was a bit worried at first (I am like that - I can't stand rollercoasters, for example) but really enjoyed the trip once it got going. Basically, you are dressed in a lifejacket and in a huge speedboat type thing. Moving at about 50mph you bounce over rapids and do 360's in the water. But the real attraction is when you actually go through the worst rapids and get completely - and I do mean completely! - soaked/covered/drowned in water. The only thing that irked me was how brief the trip seemed but otherwise I will definitely be going back to try it again. The rest of Niagara is fine, if a bit cheesy (although I liked the 'haunted house' attractions that line the main strip. We even managed to get a reasonably priced motel (we did not have free casino accomodation!) near to the Falls in the Diplomat Motel. Nothing fancy but clean and cheap (and with a jacuzzi!). Also worth a mention is the natural beauty of the surrounding area also. Lots of cool forests and drives to be enjoyed - I can't wait to return in the winter and check out the area when there is snow on the ground and when the falls are (hopefully) frozen over.

I really enjoyed going to Niagara Falls..the Canadian side is simply breathtaking and the Maids of the Midst tour was fascinating. I also enjoyed the walking tour which told about all of the attempts to go over the Falls..There are plenty of junky stores and expensive touristy crap like in any tourist town, do your research and you will find a lot of hidden treasures in the area, some great restaurants and intriguing shops.
