Though it garnered some interest in the 1970s, it fostered in a genre of sports called Trash Sports as X Factor Z notes. They were kind of a forerunner of today's reality shows. The one thing irksome about Superstars was that the ultimate winner was never a football or baseball player, but a player from some geeky sport like soccer or track & field. My favorite TrashSport was Battle of the Network stars. I remember the very first one where they were running a relay race and some bimbo on the NBC dropped the baton after they had a huge lead. NBC Team Captain Robert Conrad (who was one of my favorite TV actors) got into a big brouhaha with ABC and CBS Captains Gabe Kaplan and Telly Savales. At one juncture, Conrad says on National TV, You're Jewish [Pointing to Kaplan], and you're Greek [pointing to Savales]. I'm German so I shoot you both (in a Hitleresque accent). Can you imagine if he said that today. I think the wind-up was Kaplan and Conrad ran a 100-yard dash and Kaplan whooped him big-time.

Fun and nostalgic, especilly if you consider the Battle of the network stars along with it...cheesy fun that was much better to watch than today's reality garbage like the Bachelor.

I can't say I miss it, but it was sure good for a laugh. I remember O.J. Simpson rowing in circles, and Joe Frazier swimming like a boulder.
