A drop kick is a kick by a where he drops the ball and kicks it as or immediately after it touches the ground. Dropkicks were common in the old NFL, and though legal today, are never tried since the ball has been made more oblong. The last drop kick field goal in the NFL was in 1937 and the last points from a drop kick (PAT) was in 1941. (Add picture)

Update: Doug Flutie made one this year. Put that in your Flutie Flakes. I hope some day, when a team is comfortably ahead, someone tries one of these. I must admit, it would be tough. You'd probably have to drop the football on its fat side for any chance of getting a good bounce.
