people think there is an energy crisises because every one uses fossil fuels and fossil fuels are going to run out relatively soon. i do not believe this is a real crises because there are alternative fuels that work just as well if not better than fossil fuels, its just that at the moment its cheaper to just get fossil fuels out of the ground. by the way why do americans complain about petrol prices in the uk we pay approximatly $9 a gallon (if my math is correct)

I'm not quite clear on what an energy crisis is. Is $3 a gallon gasoline an energy crisis? Global warming? Is that an energy crisis? If so, what is the crisis?

Our "crisis", as I see it is a heavy (though understandable dependence on petroleum, the price of which is controlled by OPEC, even though they are no longer the majority producer of crude.

Canada, the US, Russia, several non-OPEC countries have lots of oil, some not even being drilled for. With all that oil, why have we allowed the OPEC countries to control the supply? Why not put together a 25 year plan to wean our economy off the oil font? Am I over-simplifying again?

WE are not working hard enough to steer away from fossil energy sources. WE are addicted to oil. WE are polluting the air, depleting the ozone and causing an assortment of lung ailments in millions of people. WE are in trouble.

Although this isn't the worst problem, it is one that could potentially become a very serious problem. Since we all depend on electricity, what would life be like if we didn't have electricity? There would be no power to support life support systems or hospital equipment (so people would get sicker or die), we wouldn't have power to run fridges, microwaves, ovens, so we would end up going hungry because we would have problems storing food. We wouldn't have power to run air conditioners, so we would be really uncomfortable in extreme weather, and vulnerable people would die as a result of the extreme hot or cold weather. Then we would have to start living as indigenous people do. But we can't really do that because we don't know how to hunt or know what to eat ie we aren't bush savvy. So we would end up being like those third world countries like Africa and we would be financially well off, yet living in poverty (no food, people dieing, suffering.) For the moment, it isn't a serious problem, but this problem has serious consequences if this problem were to get serious. We need to start finding alternate sources of power eg solar power or even building a futuristic generator that just needs dirt for fuel!

Not enough effort has been made ot effect the change from mostly fossil fuels...wiht money, etc, changeovers to alternative energy sources is possible.
