 | Donovan (132) 01/19/2008 | Natural disasters have a tremendous affect on our world. Hurricanes from 2004 as well as the recent tsunamis have changed the lay of the land including splitting islands in half and restructuring the coastline. The earthquake of 1812 in the New Madrid Fault line caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards and it changed the shape of Kentucky. It was so powerful that it rang church bells in Philadelphia, which were several hundreds of miles from the epicenter. There was a 30 foot surge of water on the river.

 | supremecritic (2) 09/14/2006 | due to climate change more natural desasters are going to happen, however as theyu happen more frequently people will become use to them. for example in the uk when it snow the country nearly grinds to a halt because people aren't use to it. in canada they have more snow and it hardly makes a difference because they are use to it.

 | kamylienne (78) 05/31/2006 | While it certainly hurts those who fall in the path of its fury, natural disasters are, as its name implies, part of nature. Nature has a way of balancing itself out. The trick is to not be in its way when it does.

 | Gentle Jude (23) 05/07/2005 | This is one of the worst things which can happen. Especially in light of the recent Tsunami disaster. That Tsunami caused so much suffering and poverty. A natural disaster is the quickest way to transform a rich town into a poverty stricken town.
