Gentle, good looking people, the haunting Fado, tasty cheap food and a country full of soul. The new construction going on in some parts of the country though is ill-planned and destructive.

Take a tour by one of ancient world most important countries, where you can also find the wonderful Porto wine.

Although this is another 'cheesehead' tourist comment saying 'awww ain't that so cute!' I have to admit that the beaches of the Algarve are truly beautiful. Admittedly it's predictably getting splatted with cheap and nasty concrete high rises in places. The people really ARE beautiful (anyone who disagrees needs their eyes testing) and give the impression of being charming, yet aloof, and sophisticated yet nonchalant. As far as I could understand, it's quite a closed and conservative society and probably still is living under the shadow of Salazar. If I could get a well paid job and could speak Portugese reasonably well, I'ld DEFINATLEY live there.

This is among the most wondeful, magical places I´ve ever been. The people are perhaps the friendliest, and most attractive I´ve ever met, and it so different from Spain!

The legacy of Salazar lives on. Cork and port and fishing. 'Nuff said.

lived there for four years as a kid. fair to say the place has advanced significantly from being almost a third world country in 85 when I went. top tip is to avoid the algarve because it shows nothing of the real Portugal - anywhere else in the country is brilliant

One of my best holidays I had in Algarve in South-Portugal! :o)
