A good firm handshake is one the best things you can aquire in this life time. It says a lot of things about you. When you can give a good, confident, firm handshake it gives a very good important first impression.

 | abichara (60) 04/29/2005 | The handshake many times serves as the first impression when meeting a person, so it's important. It is probably the most commonly used forms of non-verbal communication. Too firm of a handshake and you'll be perceived as being far too insistent on gaining approval or that you dislike the person, too soft and you'll be perceived as someone weak, vacillating or unreliable. A good handshake is firm but friendly. In the business world, it does make a difference.

 | minkey (36) 04/29/2005 | The ideal handshake consists of a solid grip (too hard and you come off as having something to prove, too weak and you are seen as a coward), eye contact, and three shakes.

 | Randyman (103) 04/28/2005 | I was taught by my father, and other men who had an influence on my life, the value of a firm handshake. It's your connection and introduction to other people. You will be percieved correctly or not by the way you shake another man's hand. A firm solid grip without trying to hurt someone or trying to prove yourself will suffice. I would be less firm when shaking a womens hand, but still somewhat firm.
