The flavor of the island has deteriorated since it has become such a popular cruise ship stop. Prices have soared and the people are becoming money oriented. It is still a great place to visit with more freedoms to be yourself than at home in the USA, but this is changing with more safety issues, seat belts-helmets, dampening the feel the island once had. Civilization can be oppressive. We usually stay at an all inclusive but still eat at many of the eastside restaurants. I hope the hurricane Emily damage can be repaired and all the fine people we have met on the island are well.

I have been going to the Yucatan since I was a little kid and think it is sad what has happened to Cozumel - It is overrun with tacky shops and tacky people off of the cruise ships.

I have gone to Cozumel with my family and have returned a total of five times. I love the island for the water, snorkeling, beaches, relaxation, fiestas, and the hospitipal natives. This little island can be anything that you want it to be. I would suggest going to Cozumel to anyone!

My wife and I spent a week on Cozumel fishing, snorkeling, but mostly doing absolutely nothing. It was wonderful. Still kind of touristy but nothing like Cancun. There are some nice restaurants on the island. This is a good place to get away and be quiet for awhile.

As peaceful and tranquil as Cancun is rowdy. Only about a 45 minute ferry ride from Cancun, Cozumel is home to some of the best diving and snorkeling anywhere. There is a giant reef with tons of marine life to see. Do not go here if you are looking to party.
