I agreed that Eliot Spitzer is a disaster as a governor. He wants to give driving licence to illegal immigrants and speed up the paroles of hard-core criminals- including violent murderers and cop killers.

Update:

The Spitzer scandal proved that the real whores are not in the red light district, they're in government.  If this moral crusader kept his zipper closed, he would still have a job.

UPDATE:  On 3/12/08, on his blog, Taki Theodoracopulos nailed this mope so well that I can't add to it.  I can only quote it for your enjoyment.

"Back in New York, a blackmailing bully who has studied Hollywood movies on how to act tough, drags his wife for support to a press conference where he announces his first priority is to regain their confidence. Whatever happened to manhood? Why did this pimp-like figure have to drag the wife along? When I was young I used prostitutes, so I’m no one to throw stones. But when I was busted, the last thing on my mind was to make excuses and, even worse, drag my poor wife into it. Spitzer is what Jonathan Swift described as 'the most pernicious little vermin that nature ever suffered to crawl upon the surface of the earth.'"

Eliot Snoozer oops, Eliot Spitzer, just doesn't see a crime when it is committed by a fellow attorney. For Eliot Spitzer, the prime directive has always been protecting the family. Now that Snoozer is poised to become a full time politician, it only makes sense that he ignores the same from other politicians. Thus, it is only logical that Snoozer would ignore the misconduct of fellow politician Alan Hevesi. And besides, Alan Hevesi has a Phd in Law.

Eliot Spitzer 3

Eliot Spitzer, the state Attorney General of New York, has made a career out of prosecuting white collar crime, securities fraud, and other issues not normally associated with a state official. Indeed, Spitzer has been able to increase the profile of the office because Wall Street falls under New York state jurisdiction, thus making the office potentially more powerful than other state attorney general offices throughout the country. Spitzer has been able to use this power to pursue civil action against brokerage houses and corporations which inflated their stock prices unethically during the late '90's. The fallout from Enron gave Spitzer a national platform to speak against corporate corruption. Now he's running for governor, and is widely expected to win by a large margin this November. Some believe that after he wins the governor's mansion, he will go on to run for President, like most New York governors have tried to do in the over 200 year history of this country. That office is a natural bouncing off point into the Presidency because that office possesses more executive powers than any other governor's office in the country. Most governors’ offices aren’t as high profile. The governor of Texas is a good example of an office which is almost ceremonial, with the Lieutenant Governor and the Legislature holding most of the power. In recent days, an issue has arisen which has the ability to complicate Spitzer’s election prospects. Although he has been ahead of his Republican opponent, John Faso by over 30 points, a scandal involving charges that the State Comptroller, Alan Hevesi, illegally spent over $83,000 in state money on a chauffeur to drive his wife around have the ability to undermine Spitzer’s campaign. Hevesi has enjoyed a good political relationship with Spitzer, who together have campaigned this year to clean up corruption in state government. Since the scandal broke, Spitzer has had a difficult time trying to navigate the political waters, as many of his fellow Democrats are divided as to whether they should withdraw their political support. Spitzer for his part is waiting for Hevesi to present his case, fairly so, but it's likely that, at the very least, the Democrats won't get the sweep that they were expecting into state government, as Hevesi’s problems will probably guarantee that will lose his re-election to the State Comptroller’s office, which manages the fiscal state of New York. The State Ethics Committee revealed the other day that his office maintained lax record keeping at his office, thus potentially hurting the reform message that NY Democrats were promoting this year. Spitzer has campaigned this year on Hevesi's tax and spending record, claiming that he will bring the same "fiscally sound" policies to Albany. If the Republicans were smart, they'd try to do their best to capitalize on this message by exposing the hypocrisy of Democratic calls for reform. They need anything at this point, if they expect to maintain their hold on the governor's mansion, which has been held in Republican George Pataki's hands since 1995. It will be difficult for the Republicans to bring Spitzer’s numbers back down to earth, as he has enjoyed a very strong lead from early on. But State Minority Leader John Faso is a credible candidate, and can make a late run if he plays his cards right.
