They are the most unorganized people I have ever delt with. First of all, they did not inform me of any charges coming out of my bank account. Secondly, the morning of the instalition, I called, and tried to get a hold of the tech who was coming to my house, and they had no record of me in their system at all, even though they shipped my the satelite by mail. Then after all the problems I have had already, i decided it was not worth my time to deal with them, I go to school on line, and can not afford to have an internet provider that is incompetent.
Then they tell me it is going to be 25 dollar fee to restock the satelite.... They are not people you want to do buisness with. They want to charge you for everything, and not inform you about it. I would not reccomend anyone do buisness with them.

Stay AWAY from Wild Blue if you are looking for fair, honest customer service! I had the worst experience ever. And from talking to others I have found that most everyone is dissatisfied with the service from Wild Blue. To start with the contractor hired to install my service was suppose to show up between 1-6, didn't call or anything and showed up at our back door well after dark between 8-8:30 pm. Of course no one had any answers for me when I called to see where the installer was. Then he spent about 5 minutes walking around my house and said "well i'm going to have to install a $150 pole in your yard to put the service in. I said well I already have 3 poles in my yard you can use one of them. No! it had to be HIS pole! I told him he would have to wait a few minutes for my husband to get home and he got in his truck and left. This was a Friday so I had to wait until Monday to call someone and was told that I would have to wait another week till they could send someone else. In the mean time I got service very quickly though someone else and told them I did not need their services. They assured me that I would receive a full refund of my $99.95 within 2 weeks. Well it has been a month and I still have not seen any refund. I have called several times and been told something different by each CSR. Finally after 1/2 hr on hold and 3 calls later I got a so called supervisor who informed me that they feel I only deserve 1/2 of my money back and that they would send it when they felt like it!!! I lost an entire day at work, spend endless time on the phone begging for customer service to help me, put on hold constantly. I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN MY MONEY BACK, THEY CALL MY PHONE DAILY, THEY REFUSE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS DIRECTLY AND THEY KEEP GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RECONSIDER BEFORE YOU USE WILD BLUE. Do your research and look at all the bad reviews and stories on the internet. I'm certain you will choose to use someone else!

Wildblue Service at my house, location in rural Southern Indiana (Evansville area).

Here's what I get all the time -
1) Intermittant or dropped connections during rainy weather and/or clear weather in my area but rainy weather in the states west of me. Yes no kidding. We see it all the time. Sunny here, no internet, check Weather channel and sure enough there is a storm system to the west coming our way in a day or 2.
2. This service is ok for activities like email or web surfing. For uploading and downloading you will be disappointed because it rarely gets through download/upload without faulting. This plays into the next issue.
3. They have a "Fair Access Policy" which limits the amount of data you can upload and download in a rolling 30 day average. If you go over the levels (7.5 gig download/2.3 gig upload) your service will be slowed down or cut off by Wildblue. This screws you over in the end because of their own poor service.

So this is what happens - Those kid's sports videos you were trying to upload for Grandma to watch? They keep on failing due to communication interruptions during the upload and you keep trying again and again to get the whole movie through starting from the beginning each time. (I'm talking 300mb movies here, nothing huge). Well that little counter they use keeps counting for every try regardless of your success or not. Pretty soon you are maxed out on your rolling monthly upload limit and can do nothing. Happens the same way too when downloading larger files. All this and $50 a month.

If you are considering wild blue I encourage you to read all the reviews.

I picked wild blue because they were associated with Direct TV which is an excellent company I cannot say enough good things about our experiances, from installation to customer service
However....
If you decide to go with wild blue make sure you are present during the installation and make the installer do it right.
Installation was sloppy, wires were not supported and the run was crooked. I had to re-run the wiring. The installer did not tighen the screws on the dish so the first wind pushed the dish off the signal, I had to pay for a service call to re-align the dish. (wild blue eventually credit the account)
Speed and service is spotty, forget using the internet on rainy days.
DSL is coming to our area in a few months and there will be a celebration when I rip out wild blue equipment and throw it in the trash

IF YOU CAME HERE TO LEARN ABOUT WILDBLUE, DO NOT STOP WITH
JUST MY POST. READ MANY AND ALSO READ THE COMMENTS,
ESPECIALLY WHERE THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMMENTS.

YOU WILL LEARN MANY THINGS TO BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT
AND YOU WILL ALSO GET A FEW CHUCKLES TOO!

READ CJDAVIDSONS POSTS AND COMMENTS ESPECIALLY!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT SIGNING UP FOR WILDBLUE SATELLITE INTERNET SERVICE, YOU HAD BETTER READ ALL THESE POSTS AND THINK AGAIN BEFORE MAKING A COMMITMENT TO PAY FOR SERVICE YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE.
THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY A SMALL SLICE OF MY OPINIONS ABOUT THESE RIP OFF ARTISTS!
WILDBLUE HAS NEVER RESPONDED TO ANY OF MY REQUESTS FOR HELP.
I STARTED CONTACTING THEM THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER WE HAD OUR DISH INSTALLED.
THE REASON WE WENT WITH WILDBLUE WAS BECAUSE OF THE GREAT
SIGNAL WE GET FROM DISH NETWORK FOR TV.
I HAVE INSTALLED A FEW DOZEN C BAND DISH SYSTEMS MYSELF AND AFTER I PURCHASED MY NEW DISH NETWORK SATELLITE TV SYSTEM FROM RADIO SHACK, I INSTALLED THE DISH 500 SYSTEM AND HAVE NEVER HAD THE FIRST PROBLEM WITH IT OR THE SIGNAL.
EVEN DURING THUNDERSTORMS WE MAY HAVE A DROPOUT FOR A FEW SECONDS, BUT IT COMES RIGHT BACK.
WITH WILDBLUE YOU CAN NEVER DEPEND UPON SERVICE AND YOU WILL NEED TO EITHER KEEP YOUR DIALUP OR GET A DIALUP SERVICE FOR WHEN YOU MUST HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET.
WITH THE WILDBLUE SYSTEM, SINCE IT TRANSMITTS TO THE BIRD IN ORBIT, I HAD TO HAVE WILDBLUE'S FCC LICENSED TECH INSTALL THE SYSTEM DUE TO LEGAL REQUIREMENTS.
THE INSTALLER DID NOT HAVE AN FCC LICENSE BECAUSE I ASKED HIM.
THE INSTALLER WAS ON HIS CELL PHONE WITH ANOTHER PERSON SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE INSTALL. ON ONE OF HIS CALLS I HEARD HIM ANSWER A QUESTION HE HAD BEEN ASKED OVER HIS PHONE ABOUT THE SIGNAL QUALITY NUMBERS... HE ANSWERED IT WAS 68% AND GOOD ENOUGH. I ASKED HIM ABOUT IT AND HE SAID HIS BOSS HAD WANTED HIM TO GET ME A BETTER DISH ALIGNMENT BUT HE SAID IT WOULD BE PERFECT FOR ME AND I WOULD NOT SEE ANY PROBLEMS BECAUSE THEY HAD A POWERFUL SATELLITE.
KNOWING WHAT I KNOW NOW, I SHOULD HAVE ORDERED HIM TO REMOVE THE EQUIPMENT AND LEAVE!
I HAD TO RESORT TO EMAILING THEM FROM MY DIALUP ISP BECAUSE THE WILDBLUE SYSTEM WAS SELDOM ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE EMAIL SERVER. THE NORMAL LOG ON TO MY DISHMAIL EMAIL SERVER REQUIRES OVER AN HOUR TO GET PAST THE "YOUR CONNECTION TO THE SERVER WAS RESET!" MESSAGE.
THERE WERE 3 MAIN REASONS WHY I SIGNED UP WITH WILDBLUE INTERNET SERVICE. 1. THEY WERE SPONSORED BY DISH NETWORK WHICH I HAVE NEVER HAD TROUBLE WITH. 2. I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO USE THE INTERNET AND TELEPHONE AT THE SAME TIME. 3. ONE OF MY GRANDSONS HAS AN ILLNESS WHICH PREVENTS HIM FROM ATTENDING PUBLIC SCHOOL DUE TO HIS FREQUENT RETURNS TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL FOR CHEMOTHERAPY AND OTHER CARE AND IS PART OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS INTERNET BASED CLASSES.
BECAUSE OF THE SLOPPY AND CARELESS INSTALLATION, THE INTERNET SERVICE THROUGH WILDBLUE WILL NOT MAINTAIN A SIGNAL LONG ENOUGH FOR THE LESSONS TO COMPLETE AND MY GRANDSON HAS TO RE-DO EVERYTHING EACH TIME WILDBLUE DROPS THE SIGNAL.
THIS IS NOT ALLOWING HIM TO DO HIS SCHOOL WORK. THE PHONE COMPANY JUST FINISHED INSTALLING A 2ND PHONE LINE FOR HIM TO CONTINUE HIS SCHOOL WORK. I AM WORKING TO ADD ANOTHER LINE TO HAVE INTERNET SERVICE SINCE WILDBLUE IS SUCH A VERY POOR COMPANY.
I HAVE HAD TO RETAIN MY DIALUP ISP SERVICE IN ORDER TO HAVE INTERNET SERVICE. I CAN NOT ALWAYS USE MY DIALUP BECAUSE I ALSO NEED THE TELEPHONE.
AFTER MORE THAT 100 EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS TO THE DIS-FUNCTIONAL AND COULDN'T CARE LESS WILDBLUE SERVICE, I FOUND AN EBAY LISTING OF A COMPLETE WILDBLUE SYSTEM SOMEONE HAD PURCHASED OUTRIGHT FROM WILDBLUE AND HAD MOVED TO A DSL SERVICE AREA AND NO LONGER NEEDED THE DISH INTERNET.
I BID ON AND WON THIS COMPLETE SYSTEM AND AFTER I RECEIVED IT, I USED THE MODEM TO REPLACE THE MODEM WHICH WAS INSTALLED BY THE KLUTZ INSTALLER.
AFTER DOING THE RESEARCH ON HOW TO REPLACE THE MODEM, I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE MODEM WHICH HAD TO BE RE-BOOTED DOZENS OF TIMES A DAY IN ORDER TO FIND THE INTERNET. DURING THE REPLACEMENT PROCESS, A WINDOW OPENED WHICH REPORTED THE MODEM I WAS REMOVING HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPORTED AS HAVING BEEN SCRAPPED.
NOW, DON'T ASK WHY I AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING A 2ND TELEPHONE LINE INSTALLED SO I CAN HAVE RELIABLY INTERNET SERVICE!
AS SOON AS THE PHONE COMPANY GETS MY EXTRA LINE INSTALLED, I WILL RIP DOWN THE WILDBLUE JUNK.

It only took me an hour to send this review, I kept getting the following message that you will get used to if you sign up with WILDBLUE;

HERE WE ARE AGAIN, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL DAY WITH NOT A SINGLE CLOUD IN THE SKY.
IT IS 72 DEGREES WITH A CALM WIND.. AND HERE I AM AGAIN USING MY DIAL-UP TO
GET INTERNET SERVICE!

WILDBLUE HAS LIED TO ME AND HAS NEVER ANSWERED ANY OF MY CALLS OR MY
EMAILS WHICH I BEGAN PLACING THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER THE POOR INADEQUATE INSTALL OF MY DISH BY ONE WHO I WOULD NOT EXPECT TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET
BACK HOME WITHOUT HELP!

IN FACT, WHEN HE ARRIVED AT MY HOME 3 DAYS LATE IT WAS ONLY AFTER HE CALLED
THE 3RD TIME WHILE HE WAS "ON THE WAY" HE FIRST REFUSED MY DIRECTIONS
SAYING HE HAD A "GPS UNIT". HE CALLED THE 3RD TIME FROM A LOCATION ABOUT 20
MILES AWAY SAYING HE HAD ARRIVED BUT COULD NOT FIND OUR HOUSE!
DUH... IMAGINE THAT! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT IF HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO USE
A GPS UNIT I SHOULD HAVE CANCELLED RIGHT THEN!!

MY NORMAL MESSAGES I SEE EVERY DAY USING WILDBLUE ARE AS FOLLOW;

DO YOU REMEMBER THE OLD PICTURE OF THE TELEPHONE OPERATOR WEARING A
HEADSET AND HOLDING A CORD IN HAND WHILE SITTING IN FRONT OF A PANEL
WITH MULTIPLE PHONE JACKS ?
THERE SEEM TO BE HUNDREDS OF JACKS WAITING FOR THE OPERATOR TO PLUG
IN THE CORD FROM A CALLER.
WILDBLUE SEEMS TO BE OF THE SAME LEVEL OF TECHNOLOGY, THERE IS A
COMPUTER BASED OPERATOR THAT KEEPS MOVING THE ACTIVE WORKING CIRCUIT FROM JACK TO JACK EVERY FEW SECONDS TO SIMULATE A SERVICE WHICH IS BEING PAID FULL
PRICE FOR EVERY JACK ON THE PANEL EVEN IF IT CAN NOT COMPLETE A CALL WITHOUT
BEING UNPLUGGED ON A FREQUENT BASIS. THIS IS A WAY FOR WILDBLUE TO REAP VAST
AMOUNTS OF MONEY WHILE PROVIDING EXCESSIVELY LIMITED POOR SERVICE!
ON THIS SAME SUBJECT, IF YOU CALL THEM MORE THAN ONCE ON THE PHONE I BELEIVE
YOUR CALL RECORD IS ERASED AND YOU HAVE NEVER CALLED BEFORE COMPLAINING
ABOUT YOUR SERVICE PROBLEM.. HOW CONVIENENT FOR THEM !! THE PERSON YOU
SPEAK TO SAYS THEY CAN FIND NO RECORD OF ANY OF YOUR COMPLAINTS...

I have been using WildBlue Satellite Internet service for for over two-years and have been extremely happy. This service is what it is . . . a great alternative to dial-up. I called several companies that all sold WildBlue and I found the best company to be Got SKY Unlimited, I think the web site is www.GotSky.com. There sales staff where extremely knowledgable and told me everything I needed upfront, where others did not talk about the limits on up-load and down load. They put me into a package that really worked well for my family. They also told me about Commercial WildBlue service; if my family exceeded our residential usage limits, we could convert our account to Commercial to get the higher limited.

I feel sorry for some of the folks that have had the excellent experience we have had. I believe that they were not given all the information they needed to make a good buying decision. The folks at Got SKY have been wonderful.

I have had the Wildblue basic service for more than a month and I am very satisfied with it. It works as advertised. Download speed is exactly as claimed and the service has been reliable. It is slower than normal during storms but is still usable. Clouds and rain have very little if any affect on the service. After suffering with dial-up for years this service is really good. I had a few problems at the time of installation and some of the support people were not very good but others were excellent. On the first full day of the service there network problems for the entire morning due to some severe storms but since then I have not had any problems at all. I would recommend this service to anyone who does not have access to cable or DSL. Wildblue's fair use policy is much better than their competition's in my opinion.

At first, Wild Blue ISP looked great, with a large upload and download limit and being constantly connected. The problem ended up being in the fine print apparently.

I live in the middle-of-nowhere in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. We spent enormous fees to get the satellite installed for "free" after spending a bunch of money to get trees cut down because they couldn't install the satellite near the road where our other satellite was.

The service itself is AWFUL. The speeds are no where near where the company claims them to be. We complained for months at a time and only once did they ever try to fix the issue. It was never resolved. Besides slow speed, we're lucky to get internet at all unless it's a 100% CLEAR SKY day. Even the slightest bit of overcast means no internet.

I have to say as well that we've upgraded twice in a year to the highest limit because we kept going over it apparently. My parents check e-mail ONLY and I don't use You-Tube (or other movie sites) on a regular basis, download music, or any other high-download activity. I used to use an AT&T USB modem with a 5000MB limit and rarely approached that. We have a wireless router with a password and live over a quarter mile from any other living human. When calling to complain Wild Blue just gives the run-around and claims someone is stealing our internet instead of attempting to fix the problem.

APPARENTLY they can't check your usage at their company or tell you when you used your internet. HOW DO THEY KNOW YOU'RE OVER?! We can check from home, but it claimed we downloaded between 3 and 4 gigs of whatever about a month ago when we were in NYC for a week. The real problem is that internet service limits are measured on a 30-day rotation instead of by month; you have to wait 30 days for a day's usage to clear, instead of just refeshing at the beginning of the month. Your usage will never be down to "0%" unless you don't use the internet for a whole month.

Cannot wait until the year contract is up and can get rid of these careless, money-grubbing idiots at Wild Blue.

This is to lee about hughes. i live in the back woods of florida about 20 miles from the nearest big town. and hughes worked great for us for a while, then about 6 months in the satelite came out alignment about 4 times, and the modem went out 3 times even with out breakers, and our commercial surge protector. After the first 6 months the internet got really slow, and we had tech guys come out it seems every couple weeks. None of them seemed to be able to figure out the cause. then after a year, 6 modems, 10 reallignments and idk how many tech guys. the internet just went out. After that we gave up on Hughes. Who wants to pay for internet thats only up for 30 secs at a time? Unlike most of the people ranting here. who probably never check the skies when their internet goes out, i understand overcast will slow you down if not halt your browsing. So if i can get a company that can keep me in the loop on whats wrong with the equipment when theres a problem then im fine with the ocasional loss of internet.

I haven't had for a full week and have been given the runaround four times! My connection rate is .3 not 1. as promised in the package I purchased. I was told that it would be sufficient to stream movies off hulu.com .

They tell you a bunch of lies like "oh you should only use our test engine, everyone else is wrong" or "there must be a problem with itunes [hulu.com and blockbuster]" oh everyone else has a problem alright a problem with wildblue not having enough bandwitdh to cover all their units sold and that's fraud.

When I told them to come get this piece of garbage the rep said I would be charged $384 dollars! For crap! (Oh yeah don't use that word or BS or the rep will give you a lecture about using curse words. She reads from a script so does the technical department who will route you back to the CS folks and then they just play their game hoipng you'll dissappear.) You see in their book, you suplly the service by making monthly payments and if your lucky you'll get online now and again and be able to open more than one page or tab (yes it is that bad).

These folks need to stop and the only thing that will stop them is if we all call our attorney general's office and file charges. I know the person who posted before me must work for them, but I was sold a package that I was told would transfer files at 1 not .3 and down. Go look at hulu.com's website to see what these folks had to say or itunes who said it would take 25 hours to download a movie. (That's not streaming.)

Today they said they would send a tech out and it would be 09/01. Is that a joke--NO! I am fed up with their lies just so someone can get a 30 day period in to disqualify my claim and think that any of us are so stupid that none of us won't challenge their illegal activity? I'm sending a letter to their corporate and letting them know two things: one I don't live in Wichita like their tower says and two, that we can all go see the judge in Benton County to see who is suppose to provide service and what happens when you don't.

If dial up is not working for you (and I can't imagine that it is) then get satellite if you can't get DSL or cable. If you understand the limitations of satellite up front, I think it can work for you. I have had WildBlue for 2 months and I am satisfied. But keep in mind that you can't stream movies or game with any satellite system and that the access is shared by all users in a given geographic area. This sharing means the more people surfing the net, the slower your connection is going to be. As I work from home, the connection is just dandy most of the time - however from 5:30 to 11:00 it slows down quite a bit as everybody comes home from work. If I were a typical user meaning I went to work somewhere else and not at home to use my connection, I would likely be upset because I would only be able to use the system during the peak usage/slow times when I would be home from work. (weekend days are slower as well but not as slow as the evening.)

Also, when it was first installed it was really, really slow all the time. I called tech support and had a very helpful rep walk me through the tweaking of some settings. I wonder if many of the people complaining on this board have tweaked their settings to optimize for a satellite connection. After that it has been great. My download speed is 1200 -1500 kb during the day and my upload speed is 72 kb. Uploading takes awhile! Long and short, if I were only going to use the system during peak hours, it is expensive for what you get but still better than dial up regardless. Also, a wireless connection from your router would yield a much degraded signal. I strongly recommend only using a wired connection with satellite. All in all I am happy with my service.

After having awful issues in Wyoming with an internet service provider named Bresnan (STEER CLEAR.), i didn't think internet service could get any worse. And then my girlfriends family got Wildblue. It's the only internet service we get where we live, and its awful. The setup and installation costs were ridiculous, and the $80 a month "plan" is bandwidth cased, which is absurd. For $80 a month, we should be able to utilize our internet as much as we want. Not only that, but our "premium" internet is barely faster than dial-up, which is completely inexcusable in this age of data and technology. $80 a month should get us at LEAST cable speed. $10 a month should get us the speed we have now.

It's not so much the slow speed and total lack of internet for hours at a time that I am disgusted with. It's their fraudulent sleazy business practices. I paid $111.00 to the initial sign-up fee and $84.95 for their highest tier of service. I paid $165.00 for the pole mount and dish. Evidently I was the only one in the world who didn't know that one can't stream live video with satellite, and the salesman I talked to assured me that I would have no problem whatsoever with my Netflix and Hulu. He gave me a phone number to call back on if I had any problems and that phone number connected me to United Healthcare Medical Insurance!!!! After a week of researching the poor connectivity, the total lack of service and the issues of satellite with live video, I called to cancel. The guy told me that if indeed the salesman mis-represented the live video issue, that I would get my initial set-up back and no early termination fees. He said it would take a couple of days to listen to the recording of that initial sales call. When I called to check, it seems that the recorded phone call didn't get recorded after all. Instead of taking my word for it, they refused to refund me anything except the early termination fees, so I am out about $300 for one week's worth of horrible connectivity!!! Unbelievable! And now I read in other blogs that they will continue to charge your credit card if you were stupid enough to give it to them, so I'm going to have to cancel my credit card and go through the hassle of getting one with a new number to prevent this from happening also....Wildblue is NOT a company that is ethical, hasn't a clue as to customer service or anything of quality...

I am very disappointed with my Wild Blue experience. I bought the service for my daughter and son-in-law as a gift. I started with the basic service. When I visited them I couldn't believe how slow it was, basically just above dial-up. I decided to upgrade the service to "Pro" which is very expensive for the service you get. When I visited after the upgrade, it was faster, but still very slow compared to DSL. They now have to move due to job and school situations. The service contract is 24 months, which I is personally ridiculous in this day and age when people have to move more frequently. The cancellation fee is $15 times the months left on the contract. When I tried to move the service to the new location, they said it was free. I got transferred to another person who explained I would have to start a brand new contract for 24 months. I couldn't find that piece of information anywhere on their website. I said no way. I wrote and email to them explaining my situation and my frustration with their policies and service, but their response was pathetic and not customer friendly at all. The email looked like some canned response. What happened to treating customers with respect! Needless to say, I do not recommend this company and their services to anyone.

Wildblue is intended as an ALTERNATIVE TO DIAL UP. It's speed is 10-15x's faster than DIAL UP.
Speeds range between 512kbs-1.5megs. It is not recommended for

1. Downloading movies
2. Online Gaming
3. Connecting to a VPN

If you have dialup this is faster ....If you are slowed down , you are slowed to dial up speed
If that is unbearable ( dial up Speed ) that is why you signed up for the provider in the first place.
Be Aware of your Download usage there is a google add on for that for more info on speeds read my blog

The advertisement says you can download 680 movies (mixed with other outrageous calculations).

That is totally false!!! You accumulate usage for a rolling 30 days. During that time, one hd movie eats up 1/3 of your total bandwidth for the 30 days. At 70% you get penalized with a lower speed. They will only provide a % for the 30 days and no supporting detail data. The contract mentions vague verbage allowing them to set the penalty and % at their desires.

Directv on demand might as well not exist with this partner service. Total misrepresentation!!!

Where is Ralph Nader when you need him!!!!!!!!

Unless you do not have access to dial up don't waste your money! I had wildblue for 2 years only because my phone lines were bad and dial up was not reliable of course neither is the wildblue. Every time it rains within 200 miles my satellite went down! It never was faster then dial up even though they promised it was 100 times faster! They want to own your computer trying to force you to only use them!!

Tech support is a bigger waste of time the first level techs don't know anything and refuse to get you to a level 2 tech, nor will they connect you with a supervisor. They promise to return calls from higher lever techs but you never receive the return call!! So if you do not know a lot about computers and connections etc you best know someone that does because they NEVER can or will help. They tell you to download the Optimizer which then locks you into their homepage just like a virus and they themselves do not know how to get it off your computer!

It was a nightmare having for 2 years and getting out of it even though my contract was past was a nightmare again!!

Save your money if this is your only choice besides dial up stick with dial up!

07/19/09 -----UPDATE-----Just received notification that Wildblue is sending my account to collections. The $300 for cancellation that two service reps told us had been waived, evidently is back on the books as is the modem that they "never received," despite the fact that we mailed it using their box and postage. THIS COMPANY IS A VERY BAD, SHADY COMPANY. Whoever regulates these companies needs to investigate. WILDBLUE IS STEALING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME. BEWARE.

****BE AWARE! THIS COMPANY WILL MAKE UP FALSE CHARGES & CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD...THEY WILL SAY WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO GET AROUND THE TRUTH....BE AWARE...THIS INTERNET COMPANY WILL LIKELY COST YOU HUNDREDS!!! FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
This is my story: I live out of city limits at about 1200 elevation in Napa, CA. DSL service is unavailable. Stupidly I signed up with Wildblue without looking at other options or reviewing them. Just to get the satellite and sign up is $300; if you need a pole mount is an extra $150 - which they will tell you nobody ever needs. LIE #1. Of course we needed a pole mount we live on a hill. The other pathetic issue in my story is that they had to pole mount the satellite on my neighbor's property. There was no where we could receive a signal on our property. I don't know why I didn't send them on their way at that point. That was my stupidity, internet addicted self. So, the internet is hooked up. I KID YOU NOT - IT IS SLOWER THAN DIAL UP. AT LEAST 20-30 SECONDS TO CHANGE TO A DIFFERENT PAGE. I WAS ON THE BRINK OF INSANITY. Then my neighbor told me to get the satellite off his property. Given that I wasn't receiving internet speeds as they had promised; we began harassing Wildblue, almost daily. Of course, they said it was my fault because I had allowed the satellite to be placed on the neighbor's property. And if I wanted it to be faster, all I had to do was upgrade to the $70/ month service. I was already paying $60/month. Well, magically, our internet stopped working. While the salespeople are complete A**h**les, the technicians are contracted and actually seem to be human beings, instead of moneysucking mosquitoes. The company agreed to pay to have a technician to come out for free (usually a $95/hr charge) to "fix" our satellite. Of course he didn't make it for the first two appointments, however, when he finally did come, we were able to convince him that he needed to sign off on the fact that we couldn't receive service on our property. If we could, "we would gladly pay to have the satellite moved." We mailed the equipment off, got out of the $300 cancellation, and washed our hands of this company. However, 3 months later, we got a bill, $300 for cancellation and $150 "we never received your equipment." After getting nowhere with a sales rep, we talked to a supervisor, who saw in the notes that "oh you do actually have a note saying that you don't have to pay the cancellation fee..." Like she had never seen such a thing before. However, she wanted a tracking # for our equipment - WE SHIPPED IT IN THEIR BOX, WITH THEIR POSTAGE! We had no way to track it. YET ANOTHER GIMMICK FOR WILDBLUE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE AVERAGE WORKING MAN. So that issue is as of yet, unresolved. Luckily I had the foresight to cancel the credit card that they had on file, early on, otherwise, all of these charges would have been charged to me. They even tried to get a credit card number when we called about these recent issues. ABSOLUTELY, THE WORST COMPANY. WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED THAT AT&T DOES BUSINESS WITH THEM? PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF DRAMA AND AGGRAVATION - NEVER, EVER ORDER WILDBLUE.

Anyone want to start a class action lawsuit? Count me in.

***FOR THOSE HAVING TROUBLE CONTACTING WILDBLUE - THIS IS A GOOD PHONE NUMBER TO USE AND I HAVE HAD SUCCESS CALLING THEM IN THE EVENING PST. 1-888-278-6858

I signed up with WildBlue, paid the outrageous $350.00 start up fee and bought the $49.95 a month plan. I have had it now for 6 months and counting and I have never been more miserable. At first like everything you purchase these days it seems, it seemed to somehow loose the connection. You can't run more than one computer off of it or it will screw one computer up. The speed is terrrible, I write faster than it brings up sites and now I can't wait until July to tell them to take me off their contract. WildBlue is not customer friendly, they just want your money. They don't even use their own product. They have another internet provider that handles their offices so what does that tell you about a company that won't use it's own product? Sure you can get faster service if you pay more money but the fastest service doesn't even come close to the slowest DSL. WildBlue is just for people like me who can't get a provider because we live in a region of the U.S. that God forgot about when he was handing out civilization passes. I can't wait to move and live in a place with high speed internet and than WILDBLUE can KISS MY MOON PIES. They won't steal anymore of my money for poor service!

Well it's been some time since I first posted on here but my opinion is still the same. I am not sure why some have all the problems, maybe its location? I am in South West Indiana and not sure what spot beam but I just don't have all that much trouble with it or maybe I'm more tolerant to the troubles. Sure when it's heavy overcast I get poor or no signal and I watch Doppler in Laredo also just to know whats going on with weather there. YES Laredo is prone to some heavy weather and yes it effects connection but I still have dial up if I need it. Wildblue isn't the cure all it's just a bandaid to true cable or DSL, you have to keep that in mind. It is what it is and satellite is expensive, just go out and get a satellite phone and compare that to your normal cell phone plans. I'm going on 3 years now and NO I don't work for them nor have I ever, I own an excavation company and have for the past 20 years, so I think that spans more than Wildblue in the first place.

Bottom line,,,, you want cable,, move to where you can get it,,, if that aint the answer then learn to understand the inherent problems with satellite.

As for FAP since I got on the largest package over 2 years ago I have not gotten any mail at all from the FAP Police. I'm sure depending on web habbits you can push that boundary and there may be other unfair issues going on as well but I can only speak from my experience and I just haven't had those problems. BUT I seldom download much of anything nor do I watch videos or use any streaming connections as it's barely fast enough anyway.

Overall I'm content with my service but I know the difference between cable and satellite.

I would be interested to hear from someone who has had Hughes and Wildblue and know which is better, I am WAY out of contract so I could switch if the water is better over there.

ORIGINAL POST;
I am on the largest package they offer and I use it a LOT. Of course when it's down I am ticked off like anyone would be. I live in the sticks and my only other option is dial up and @ 2-3 kbs that just sucks. Wildblue actually has probably been more reliable than my phone lines, we always have problems with them, tree down or someone digs into a main. I had a TRIA go out after the first 3 months which was replaced pretty quick (2 days) and I have some problems with storms but not too bad. I think most people that are unhappy either had a bad install or the dish has moved, POINTING IS CRITICAL! I also would bet some peolpe are unknowingly sharing bandwidth with neighbors via wireless routers. I did get FAPPED when I had a basic package but just got the warning, not throttled down. Overall I am much happier than when I was on dial-up and I am sure I will switch to cable once, if it ever makes it to me but once again I wonder about the same problems I have with my phone.

You can get a cheap signal meter to point the dish yourself. I happen to have a very good installer just down the road from me. I have been wanting to re-point it and am looking into the meter now rather than bugging my neighbor.

So Bottom line, it sure beats dial-up but YES there is better stuff out there if it's available to you. When I signed up Hughes net had MUCH worse feedback as a company, not sure if that's changed but the way I was informed on the forums I looked at was that Wildblue actually limits customers on the spot beam in order to insure proper bandwidth, and Hughes keeps on selling no matter how many people buy into and try to use that beam.

Poor service, poor reliability, but the worst part of this company is the staff. There is a culture of arrogance and nonchalance that extends at all levels of this company. They are rude, unhelpful, and often unresponsive to customer needs. I would not recommend this company under any circumstances.

Wildblue is lucky i am even giving them a star... if i could rate them less then terrible, i would.. live in the country in Wisconsin- every time there is "weather", we have no signal. and many times just becasue..and of course i call to talk to whomever is the lucky, non english speaking person who gets to hear me rant.. actually i have been very patient with them, and very nice.. however my patience has run out. for $65 a month, just for the internet, it should always work, and be fast. not so.. i like how the only good rating came from a wildblue installer. hahahahaaha! so BUYER BEWARE.. do not get this service unless it is your last option and you can get NO OTHER PROVIDER!!!

DO NOT GET WILDBLUE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just had WildBlue hooked up on April 6, 2009. First off the guy couldn't even get it running so I had to end up doing it. I had to reload my computer just to get a connection. Fine. W/e. That was the least of my problems.

I got WildBlue so I could get a VOip phone, surf faster, watch videos, and play games online(xboxlive). I CAN'T DO ANY OF THESE!!

VoiP and online gaming don't work with satellite internet no matter what bandwidth you order. I can't watch videos because in 2 days of barely surfing and watching only a few short videos on YouTube and downloading about 10 songs, I have already used 22% of my bandwidth for the month!

I tried to cancel and have complained about all these things but they say its all in the customer agreement and there is nothing they will do except charge me $15 for 23 months!

It is ridiculous and definitely not worth it. I wish I had never heard of WildBlue!

I wish I'd known about this site before Chris (my fiance) and I decided to sign up with WildBlue.

On April 11, 2009 we had the guy come out and set up the dish and do whatever with it. Anyway, he told me I needed to delete everything off my laptop I wasn't using to get faster speeds. I deleted stuff I didn't use, which wasn't much, and the speeds still stayed the same. Chris and I tried using both our laptops with a wireless N router and it was useless. Chris called the service number and the representative said the modem was pulling off of three different IP addresses. We've reset the modem multiple times.

Finally, after calling the service number over and over again with the same response (reset the modem) a worker came to our house and replaced the pole the dish was on and the receiver. The Internet worked noticeably better after that. The man, Mr. Mattox, said the guy who'd originally set it up didn't do any of it right and he'd been following around fixing all his mistakes. Mr. Mattox also told us we wouldn't be charged for this house call service.

We hit our bandwith limit soon after this and it took like half an hour to load a single page. It's ridiculous! And according the equal usage policy, the speed would only be cut in half. Well, guess what? It was cut by maybe 90%. The whole company is a joke.

They also bill us using Chris's debt card/direct billing to his checking account. Our bill is only supposed to be a little over $60 a month. This bill was about $150 and when Chris called them up asking what the extra charges were, they told him it was where Mr. Mattox had come out to fix the whole setup, AFTER Mr. Mattox had told us we wouldn't be charged. Chris had a fit! And after arguing with them, and talking to a few people, for about half an hour they finally told him he'd get his refund of the charges in 7 to 10 business days.

Bandwith usage does NOT reset after they bill you. It's a rolling 30-day period. Our Internet has been so slow over the last two weeks that we're looking for a new Internet company.

I wouldn't reccomend this company to ANYONE! They charge you for bogus stuff and take it directly out of your account and don't put it on their statements they send you. They send the statement only 2 days in advance when most utilities companies send theirs well over a week and a half in advance. On the WildBlue website they advertise speeds "faster" than dial-up. That's FALSE advertising and I'm tempted to report this company to the Better Business Bureau once Chris freezes up his checking account.

DO NOT GO WITH WILDBLUE FOR YOUR INTERNET SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had WildBlue installed today (since I have no other choice around here). Had Dialup previously. Already disappointed with WB. Seems tad slower than my Dialup!?! Only thing faster on here is multimedia loading (videos, music). I have the lowest package, Value package, 500kbs. Does anyone think its worth spending $20 more a month to get 1.0kbs w/ the next highest package? Or is that a waste of money. Let me hear your thoughts.

I am more than satisfied with Wildblue. I was very apprehensive after reading several reviews like others on this board but I am very impressed with it. We have the lowest price package, download speeds are between 430kbps-530kbps, upload speeds are 100kbps at best, but if you have no other option, other than dial up @20kbps because our phone lines are old (that's what we were told) it works great for us. As for the FAP, we've never come close. I installed a 3rd party meter and we haven't hit 2 gigs yet. We use it virtually daily, watch some short videos, podcasting. It seems that a lot of people have had very bad experiences with Wildblue, don't know if the service is really that bad for them or if they were expecting something different. Yeah I would love to pay $20/month for DSL but we have to take what we can get where we live. We've had it for about three months, has not been down once. Given my experience, I would highly recommend it to a friend who did not have any other options. We also looked at Verizon wireless broadband, but we are on the fringe for that and didn't want to worry about getting service for it.

You are lucky if you are reading these reviews BEFORE signing up with WildBlue as you may be able to avoid the mistake we made and choose another company.

The service is more expensive than most others if you look at dollars per download. With other companies the speed is 2 to 3 times faster for only $10 more. Not only that, but we never got the speed promised anyway. Every test I ran showed that we were at half the advertised speed (the fine print says "up to X" speed so there is nothing you can do about it.

The other big issue is that they often put blocks on our account because we "exceed their fair access policy" with downloads. We use the internet for Facebook, e-mail and OCCASSIONAL shopping on e-bay. Not much else...no downloads of music or YouTube. We are only home at night so it is not like we are online 24/7. If that exceeds the policy, I can't imagine what we are supposed to do with the service. When they block the service they say you will have access to the Internet at 2x the speed of dial up. It is a lie. We pay over $50 per month and have NO INTERNET at all.

Customer "service" is also a joke.

Do yourself a favor and try another company or a wireless card.

<p>CJ- I wasn't whining...just trying to help folks out to let them know there is another service besides satellite for those who can't get cable or DSL.  Your speeds are good for WildBlue.  With the Verizon Wireless Card I often get speeds around 1000 kbps, and have even gotten around 1200, and uploads way above WB.  Just tested it now and it is 1109 kbps download and 309 kbps upload - this is typical.  It's comparable to DSL.  Pages load fast, and you can watch YouTube without having to wait over and over while it loads. Forgot to mention, there is a limit of 5G per month, but that is more than enough for most people, without having to worry about going over.  (There is a cheaper plan but only get 50MB.)  Just hoping to help anyone who is wondering if there's another way! Thanks!</p>

I would like to thank you all for your reviews of Wild Blue. They sound similar to those of other Internet Satellite Companies like Hughes.net and SkywayUSA. I was very close to signing on the dotted line but I think I will check into a PC Card which at least if it doesn't work, I can return and I won't be stuck in a contract.

Some suggestions for you folks who seem to be stuck are to dispute the charges with your credit card company. My experience has been that they tend to side with you, their customers, rather than the business. Other options are to take them to small claims court but make sure to ask for all of your fees back, including court costs.

Anyway, I wish you all good luck in getting rid of this satellite service and look into PC or Wifi Cards next time if available in your area. My research suggests this might be a better way. If you get cell service where you are at, you should be able to get this service. The equipment is if not free, generally cheaper than the satellite equipment. Overall as far as costs, it is about the same for a 2 year period, it just seems like a lot less hassle.

LIKE CLOCK WORK @4:30PM NOT ALLOWED ON AT ALL AND DUERING THE MORNING IT IS SLOWER THAN DIAL UP! WE HAVE NOT BEEN DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE HAVE FROM THE START. THIS IS EITHER A SCAM TO UPGRADE OR BECAUSE THEY'RE LIMITED ON BANDWIDTH USAGE, TAKE AWAY FROM OLDER CUSTOMERS TO SERVICE NEW CUSTOMERS. WE ARE NOT NETWORKED W/ ANY OTHER COMPUTERS, LIMEWIRE, ETC..FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!! AND FOR THE FIRST 4 MNTHS COULDN'T USE IT WHEN A WHITE PUFFY CLOUD PASSED BY!!! SO DON'T PLAN ON USING AT ALL FOR A LITE RAIN SHOWER OR STORM. WORST EVER AND NO ONE CAN HELP YOU! PLAN ON BEING TRAPPED!!!!! UNLIKE THE OTHER RATINGS W/ ONE STAR...I VOTE A NEGATIVE -10 STAR!!!! I'VE ALSO SEEN HUGHES NET BEING JUST AS BAD OR WORSE....SO GOOD LUCK!!

P.S.- YOU BUY THEIR EQUIPMENT SO NO MONEY BACK AND I WOULDN'T SELL IT TO MY WORST ENEMY!! CAN'T USE THEIR EQUIPMENT EITHER FOR OTHER SATELITE PROVIDERS! JUST DIG A HOLE AND BURY IT...ITS WHAT THEY DO TO YOU!!!

And only $50 per month for all this aggravation. Thank God I only have 3 more months of this, then I can try to find something else.

Wildblue is by far the worst internet service ever. Their customer service also sucks. If you have a complaint you might as well bang your head against the wall. There is no way to actually contact anyone. You cannot even file a complaint with the BBB since Wildblue does not list their mailing address anywhere. Unbelievable. I live in MO and the speed is terrible. Half the time it doesn't work at all. If there is a breeze or a cloud moves in front of the sun it will drop you. I have had Wildblue for about 3 years - I moved down the street and had the service moved. Because I moved physical location, they renewed my contract automatically - 2 more years of crap. I have paid for the equipment and done the time. This company is not going to make it. In my area, other options are finally moving in and I guarantee that everyone with a Wildblue dish on their roof will be tossing the thing in the trash. If I could rate the company and service with a "zero star", I would.
