Another from the "anything as long as it rhymes" brigade.

Astonishing songwriter, very much one of a kind, captured the concerns of the English working class better than even Townshend in my view. Very humanistic and sympathetic, looked out for the little people. At the same time, he could be quirky or funny, and was able to recall England's history and culture with fondness and understanding without resorting to jingos and cliches. The stuff that he wrote from 1966 such as the Face to Face album and singles like "Dead End Street and Sunny Afternoon up through the 1971 country , r&b, and traditional jazz tinged album "Muswell Hillbillies" in particular is astonishing, as that period marks one of the greatest strings of outstanding songwriting and album making that I know of. A talented, thoughtful genius of rock lyricism.

Ray Davies is one of the most underrated geniuses to come out of the 2nd Wave of the British Invasion & this oversight needs to be corrected immediately!

I agree that this band was a model for the sound of the sixties and had raw energy. Ill even say that there was a good formula for pop rock going on in the writing and I might give a yes to the 'band' being a hall of famer, but I just dont see revering the writing that highly. These guys really had about 5 big hits that I can recall, and you dont hear them mentioned at all when speaking in terms of influence and making a real mark in their day. Some of their stuff like Father Christmas and others like it that verged on punkness' made it hard to take them seriously. I cant give this one a yes.

Come on! These guys helped create the Rock-n-Roll sound of the 1960s & 1970s. They are an obvious shoe in! I could think of reasons ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT!
