The question is song writing ability, not fashion sense. Any musician you ask, will tell you that this man is a musical genius. and one of the most prolific song-writers of the 20th (and so far the 21st)century.

For all his affected weirdness - I have to admit, I've still enjoyed some of his work. This is much easier for me to do when I don't have to look at him.

never have we seen a more forward looking song writer/musician/producer in history. Many knock him yet he is a true genius, too good for most to understand.

I deny his genius! Soooooo overrated it is almost beyond belief. Proves once again that people will listen to any thing.

While there is no denying his somtimes irritating weirdness, one also cannot deny his genius! His ability to master and combine various elements/genres of music (rock, pop, soul, funk, gospel, jazz, etc.)into something unique and his own was probably rivaled only by perhaps Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, or Marvin Gaye, at their best. Even if we took away the monster musicianship on multiple instruments, one of the most elastic tenor singing voices in rock/pop/r&b history, he would still be noteworthy for the songs He's written and the tour-de-force albums he crafted almost single-handedly at times: Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Sign O' The Times. Even some of his lesser albums are worth 4 stars out of 5.
