Once described by Roger Daltrey as "The Guv'nor", Bowie is without doubt one of the best ever singer/songwriters in his field. His eclectic body of work contain (among many) such classic songs as Space Oddity, Changes, Oh, You Pretty Things, Life On Mars, Rebel Rebel, Heroes, and the exquisite film title track, Absolute Beginners. Apart from producing best selling albums for Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, Bowie also came to the aid of British rock band, Mott The Hoople, who were on the verge of breaking up. Bowie persuaded them not to and penned for them the classic, All The Young Dudes, which brought them greater recognition and helped prolong their future. A multi-talented artist, Bowie has influenced many bands and solo artists during his career and is duly entitled to his place among the very best.

For his perverse will to never repeat himself and live his entire career on the artistic edge he should be be given a special award for courage.
