Ronnie Van Zant IS (not was, IS) one of the most influential singer/songwriters of all time. Inspiring countless tribue bands, Helping to make music what it is, even today; Zakk Wylde.....Huge Skynyrd fan, Kid rock......Same thing, Metallica.....you guessed it! The list goes on and on. This man wrote the second most requested song of all time (Freebird) second only to Stairway to Heaven. He wrote the Southern Rock anthem "Sweet Home Alabama". He wrote the famed "Happy Gilmore tune" "Tuesdays Gone". Simply listen to the words in his songs, forget the guitars (Even though they rock!) and just listen to them, I have yet to find a song that I can NOT relate to. I beleive in my heart of hearts, had this poor man not been struck down in 1977, this band would be bigger than the Eagles, and it is all thanks to Ronnie Van Zant.
