LOL, you're joking right? This coming from someone from Britian, whose cuisine is so cholesterol filled and fatty, vegetables boiled 'til all the nutrients and taste are gone. The only healthy cuisine in Britian is the non-British food brought by immigrants, Indian, Asian and Greek cuisine.

Sorry, gluttony may be a sin but I love this about America. The candy section in a Canadian grocery store is tiny and always has the same boring crap. In an American grocery store it's like three full rows with tons of variety.
Say what you will about the U.S. but the country has always been about bounty. I see no harm in a society that values being well fed. The average American just needs to exercise more (much more) if they want to eat like that. I love my junk food but I pay for it at the gym.
In the same light, why is it that the British feel the need to fry everything in as much grease as possible?

Ostensibly, America is about freedom of choice. Most of that choice comes down to how much money you have in your pocket. Pepsi vs. Coke? Burger King vs. McDonald's? Large or small portions of unhealthy, over-processed, inorganic crap represents freedom of choice? No wonder our rates of obesity and heart disease have accelerated so alarmingly.

How can any American say this is NOT a huge part of our society when just last Friday 05/13/05 USA TODAY had Restaurant sales climb with bad-for-you food ; Consumers may say they want healthier options, but bigger, badder food still sells better as the front page article. It detailed how Americans have consistently gone BIG and wants more and higher calorie food in large quantities. We spend billions, yes, that with a B, on fast food in massive quantities in a YEAR. Thats America baby! Apparently hypocrisy is also American according to the other comments on this page. Oh, I live in California too, ever heard of Carls Jr., biggest, highest calorie burger in the US.

Everything? I'll give you the word SOME but everything doesn't work. Not when you have the amazing variety of choice we have here. If you choose to stuff your face full of junk though, I think you would be hard pressed to find a country that wouldn't be able to accommodate you. (Where do you get one of those Giant Mega All American Chocolate Chip Cookies with Peanut Butter anyway?)

The U.S. isn't the only country guilty of indulging in the guilty pleasure foods. Now, if you'll excuse me, there's some leftover FRIED (yeah, fried food is TABOO!) chicken in the fridge that's calling MY name...

I'd say there's just as much fat free low sugar organic low calorie lite carb smart super small diet food out there. But hey, nobody said making fun of Americans was easy. I'll give this one an E for effort.

Freedom of choice is one of the great things in America. Which means if I want to have an Extra Large All the Meats Pizza, with a Super Duper Giant Biggie UP-Size Coke, an a Double Giant All-American Chocolate Chip cookie with peanut butter, I will thank you very much.

Just say no, or leave some behind, or have them put it in a box and you can take it with you (a convenience which is not available everywhere in Europe).

Some truth to this, but the wording shows more about the ignorance of the listmaker than it does about any real knowledge of America. Don't get me started on the eating habits of proletarian Brits.

I don't know where you've eaten in America-but there's plenty of plain simple fare, healthy, organic and nutritious foods and just about any other kind of cuisine available.By the way- last time I went to England I nearly starved looking for something edible, let alone tasty!!!

Actually, in my family, I find it to be more economical in the long run just to order the super dooper and share, then to get everyone their own individual servings, and then find a majority of it goes to waste anyway.

Yes, that's often true. Our food has one redeeming quality, however, that could never be said to apply to English food... it has flavor.
