Electric stoves are junk! I often wanted one of those smooth glass top ones, until we had a bad ice storm a few years back, all we had was our gas stove and fire place. I realized that having an electric stove would have ruined us for sure! I love my gas stove, not only because it will work when the power is out and therefore cook your food, but also because it is much better to cook and bake with. I have a Maytag convection oven and it rocks!

Graymalkin, I roast my peppers over the flame too. It does a pretty good job of blistering the skin, making it easier to peel. O.C. I will only cook with gas. I prefer the instant heat, and the way the heat distibutes when cooking, especially when using cast iron. Elecrtric stoves just don't measure up, at least in my opinion. We've owned a Kenmore since 1998 and it does the job just fine.

I also prefer to cook with a gas stove mostly for the temperature control. Definitely cooks more evenly, when you turn it off you do not have to worry about removing the pan from the burner. I also like the convenience of being able to blister the skins of peppers over the flames.

No offence but these are for bbq wimps! For us 'BBQ officianados', only charcoal or wood is used. I figure you might as well just cook in the kitchen if your gonna have all these controls and comforts. The science of contolling fire is the challenge to outdoor cooking. Give me a barrel BBG pit with a side smoker and Ill yeild a better peice of meat, or vegetable every time.

I used to have a propane stove in new york and I didn't care much for it. The pilot was always going out and I had to always relight. I guess if I had a stove that was more dependable with less hassles I might try it out. I know my mom always liked baking bread in a propane oven, than electric.

I think the heat is more dependable than electric, at least with natural gas. They don't seem to develop hot spots on the elements.
