It was a bit sentimentally manipulative but otherwise well written, acted and produced. Not a major piece of art, but better than a LOT of the blckbuster crap that clutters up the screen.

I thought the actings were great, if I were to blame, I would blame the director. Yes, it's indeed a boring life sitting in a deserted island all by yourself, but the film doesn't have to make the audiences just as bored to make the point.

I liked it. I guess there are some people can't sit through a few hours without half-naked women, exploding cars, and automatic weapons. Of course it moved a little slow, and didn't have a lot of action or dialogue...he was stranded on a friggin' island. It was a realistic depiction of what it would be like to live on an island by yourself for 4 years, then to return to your life from before only to lose what you thought you treasured most. If you can't sit through and appreciate a unique film, go watch a "good" movie like fast and the furious. ha.

I didn't think it was a great movie, but it wasn't the worst I've seen either.

I partially agree; Tom Hanks is not above having a flop. Anyone who ever managed to sit through The Money Pit or Bonfire of the Vanities would probably attest to that. But, regardless of talent, personal charisma or overall brilliance - no actor is ever above being cast in a crappy film including those two legends of the silver screen Brando (consider Guys and Dolls) and De Niro (how about the forgettable Stanley and Iris). Castaway was not the most enthralling or memorable film I've ever seen but it wasnt the worst. It was okay just okay. But, all things considered, Hanks shouldnt have to carry the weight for this movies blandness - at least not entirely. I think his acting was up to par he surely convinced me that he loved that dirty little soccer ball. Still, after awhile, it drug on like a day in a doctors office and all I wanted to do was make my escape out the door and regain feeling in my derriere.

This movie blows. Not because it was slow - I like lots of slow movies- but because it blows! Oh look, Tom Hanks,..........I am officially bound by law to like it! I've seen Turner and Hooch......................Tom Hanks can pull my balls. He's not God, and a bad movie is not beneath him. I've seen lots of bad movie with him in it, and this is one of them. 'Forrest Gump', 'The Road To Perdition', and 'Saving Private Ryan', after that -nothing. It's not like he's Deniro or Brando. 'Castaway.........pleease. F 'Wilson', I'm not that easy. I value a dollar more than that. ))))))))))))))) )))))))))))))))0UPDATE. Funny, Tex. Just the thought of him trying to do that cracks ME up. Forget him cracking up.

I liked it. Sorry maybe I am stupid, but I thought it was sort of funny and sad. Could you imagine him in the studio trying to cry for his long lost volley ball, without cracking up?

I really liked this film.Only Tom Hanks could pull off being in a movie for 2 hours almost entirely by himself.
