I understand the idea of providing children with healthy food, but that should be for the other 364 days of the year. I never got veggies as a child, but there was one lady who would always give out apples. Some kids would take a single bite out of the apples and throw it back into her yard in protest.

No veggies, but I recall fruit on several occasions -- usually apples. Though I never got one with a razor blade in the middle, when my dad did the post-haul selection process, any and all fruit went straight into the trash. Pretty much, if I brought in 100 lbs. of treats, (an average haul in the good old days when Halloween wasn't so regulated), my dad probably kept about 5-10 lbs. max. Usually, only Reesie cups, Nestle bars, Hershey bars, and M&Ms ever made the cut.

When I was a boy, some neighbors of ours had a fruit and veg store that they ran out of their garage. When we went around at Halloween, the lady of the house would drop an item wrapped in tin foil into our bags and shut the door, before we could unwrap it...I think I may have got an apple once or twice, but more often than not, it was something like an onion or a potato.
