06/08/2006 | This guy is a real old-school Stalinist weirdo. He had himself elected President For Life by a cabinet that he appointed. He also used millions of dollars of the country's money to erect a giant statue of himself on a motorized rotating platform that is synchronized in such a way that his statue always faces the sun. I would hate to live in his country but I am glad there are still a few raving mad despots in the world to spice things up.

06/08/2006 | He is a Commie who was holding power when the USSR fell apart. He engineered a couple elections that have maintained him in power by creative counting, intimidation, etc.
He is a secularist and is trying to hold the radical Moslems in check. He is one of our staunch allies in the war on terrorism.
Not exactly a true democrat is he? Maybe we should overthrow him, because he is not democratic enough, so some version of the Taliban can come to power!
That would be typical US policy in the area. Get rid of something bad so something worse can take his place!
