Much of Yoda's history is unknown. Declared one of the most powerful and wise Jedi of all time, Yoda served the Jedi Council for many years. With his knowledge of the Force, he soon became the leader of the council.
When Count Dooku, a former Padawan of Master Yoda, turned to the Dark Side, Yoda realized the Republic was coming to an end. As a General, he faught gallantly during the Clone Wars. When Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader, Yoda felt it necessary to destroy the Sith before they engulfed the galaxy. He attempted to kill Palpatine, but Palpatine managed to escape. Ashamed for his failure, he felt it necessary to exile himself on the small planet of Dagobah. There, he waited for Luke Skywalker, Anakin's son, to grow old enough to obtain Jedi training. After Obi-Wan's death, Yoda continued showing Luke the ways of the Force, telling him his final task was to turn Vader back to the light. Soon after, Yoda died at over the age of 800.
