Update: Mo was fired today, and it wasn't a big surprise. The Sixers made a $90M investment in the offseason in Elton Brand, yet somehow the team has regressed, Worse, they've been getting thumped pretty badly. When you're employer spends a boatload of money and gets you some big assets, you better deliver or your days are numbered. Original Post: I'm not a huge Mo Cheeks fan. I sort of feel that he's been overmatched these last few years, and may not have the backbone to deal with NBA egos. But you have to give him some credit for how the Sixers have performed since the Iverson trade. With Iverson, they were 5-18. Since the trade, they finished 30-29. Better yet, they've seemed to play harder. The young players like Iguodala and Willie Green seem to have made strides. Cheeks has definitely earned the chance for another year - they'll have an influx of talent with three first round picks coming in. And amazingly, it was the soft spoken Cheeks who had the backbone to say enough's enough with Iverson.

Anyone who can handle Iverson's ego without a major blow-up is a decent guy. But his failure to make a point of improving what's become an abysmal defense leads me to question how decent a coach is.
