 | GenghisTheHun (177) 03/27/2008 | I am surprised how many numbskulls are prejudiced against people from the South based on actions of some people who hail from the South or based on things that happened centuries ago. This is the height of ignorance and rank stupidity.

 | MissPackRat4Jesus (42) 03/27/2008 | A person does not have a right to complain about others being judgmental and hateful when he/she is that way themselves against Southerners -- not just Southerners, but ANY group of people -- people who God created, as God does not make junk! There isn't any justification AT ALL for hatred against anyone!

 | LadyJesusFan777 (39) 03/27/2008 | I do not hate anybody, but I can say this with a straight face: there are people that are very critical of others without even giving them a chance. I have always been fair with people, and hope the same would be done for me.

 | edt4 (110) 06/21/2005 | It's a sad truth that in every stereotype, there is a germ of truth. Southerners may be overly-sensitive to attack, and there may be parts of such attack that are unfair, but there's no getting away from their history. I couldn't put it any more eloquently than Jar-Jar Binks did. White America became enraged over the injustice that was the O.J. Simpson verdict, and it was an injustice, but the fact of the matter is that white racists and murderers were routinely exonerated in the South by all-white juries, at least when their victims were black people, and this occurred during my own lifetime. It's a sorry legacy that continues to have its reverberations into our contemporary era. One perhaps minor example- young adults from Georgia who attempt to get into such Ivy League schools as Yale and Harvard have a tendency to be looked down upon, whatever their own academic records might be, because of Georgia's insistence on teaching creationism in their public schools as a science. Unfair, perhaps, to those students who are gifted and had no choice as to where they were raised, but understandable, considering the backwardness of much of the culture. There are still Southerners upset over the results of the Civil War or who feel that the Confederate Flag, a symbol of oppression to blacks everywhere, should continue to be flown in State buildings throughout the South. You can understand why Deliverance wouldn't have been so nearly as credible or believable if it had been filmed in Philadelphia or New Haven, as opposed to Jo..Jah (translation: Georgia).

 | minkey (40) 06/14/2005 | There's not one of us who's immune to hypocracy. I catch myself at times saying one thing, and doing something completely different. At the end of the day I think if you can identify some of these hypocracies, reflect on the decisions you made and things you've done and said, you'll realize what's right and make positive changes going forward. It's the people who are blinded from their ignorance, and who will not accept criticism from others but get defensive and refuse to change, who have the real problem.

 | Sundiszno (32) 05/27/2005 | Of course, it's not just Southerners who come in for this type of invective - Christians seem to be favorite whipping boys these days as wel. So much the worse if you are a Christian from the South. As others have said, we're all human and have many of the same foibles, but some of us just never do show much maturity, no matter how old we get. That kind of vicious judgemental trashing (synonymous with bigotry) may be understandable because human nature is what it is, but it doesn't make it justified or justifiable.

 | James76255 (23) 05/27/2005 | As a toothless, racist, insecure, 5th grade educated person from the South that killed JFK, I don't care what others say. The opinion of the rude, conspiracy driven, loudmoth, crack smoking Northerners really doesn't make much difference to me. The tofu sucking, reality deprived, queer bait granola bars don't concern me either.

 | jaywilton (29) 05/27/2005 | Big,white southern guys are considered fair game;there is no other way to understand how John Rocker-relief pitcher- was treated. On his way to talk to a class of Special Ed kids,Rocker had the chutzpah(nerve) to register some critical opinions of New Yorkers with a Sports Illustrated reporter;he'd had batteries thrown at him and been targeted by abusive language by New York fans. It's considered okay to target white southerners;not for white southerners to trash talk about New Yorkers. He didn't choke his coach-like basketball player Latrell Sprewell, for example, but unlike Sprewell,he was written about like he was a criminal.

 | CastleBee (85) 05/27/2005 | Plainly put, this happens because we all have the ability to smell someone elses stench before we smell our own and most people appear to be satisfied with that arrangement. I also think that we are all guilty of doing this to some degree. Real maturity in human relationships occurs when you at least try to start seeing and understanding the other guy's point of view and especially if it is a polar opposite of your own. If you cant find it in your heart to do that without sweeping judgments based on your own unexplored and possibly unfounded prejudices, then you are actually condoning the exact kind of behavior you have been professing to revile.

 | Jar-Jar Binks (17) 05/26/2005 | Hey I'm only human. I'm not a God. ... However, if Southerners didn't treat African-Americans as slaves, if they didn't have those Jim Crow Laws, if they didn't have the KKK, if they didn't have that Confederate Flag, if they didn't kill JFK and Dr. King and if they supported Civil Rights, maybe I wouldn't have said anything bad about them.

 | Randyman (109) 05/26/2005 | Not so much insecurity, as curiosity. My point was how can some one justify doing or saying something they themselves just admited hating. The whole purpose of this list is just to show inconsistancies.

 | CanadaSucks (50) 05/26/2005 | You people sure get soft at the most opportune times. . .Forget about the war, forget about the economy, this liberal f#ggot made fun of the SOUTH! (Bugle calls from the background) Where on earth does this insecurity come from? Who says reviewers 'hate' people like this? What purpose would 'hate' serve? Who says you can't take tough shots and have tough opinions? Sounds like someone is awfully insecure. People have a right to hate even though it is a conter-productive emotion. Why should you fear or get upset over it? Want hate to go away? Don't give it the attention it craves. . .over-defending the oh-so-insulted south steps right into the little trap of reviewers that are out baiting for a fight. Let it go and read a book. . .

 | AndrewScott (73) 05/26/2005 | This may not describe the average Democrat here, but post-election we've had our share of visitors obnoxiously bait American Southerners with outlandish insults on RateItAll. When anyone claims that all Southerners are prejudiced, or shows broad hate for people they call hateful, they are indeed being hypocritical.

 | souljunkie (21) 05/26/2005 | I think this happens more because of the mentallity of those who control this site. Their willingness to turn there head if it serves their own agenda. The people who are doing it are the well know shallow idiots that we all are aware of if you have spent any real time on RIA.

 | EschewObfuscation (71) 05/26/2005 | I LOVE people that are judgemental, hateful, critical and prejudiced and spew such opinions, whether provoked or not. This site wouldn't be half as entertaining, funny, invigorating or interesting if they weren't here. Welcome to the free-for-all! What'd you just say about southern red-necks?

 | Jed1000 (74) 05/26/2005 | Why single out southerners in particular in this item? Aren't the very same self-righteous types just as likely to say terrible things about gays, women, northerners, exotic dancers etc. etc. etc.?
