 | GenghisTheHun (168) 02/24/2008 | To plow ahead stubbornly in a untenable position, in opposition to revealed and natural science, that what the Bible teaches in the area of the formation of the universe and life is literally true is both wrong and harmful. It holds up the belief of the Godhead and God's role in creation to ridicule.
I have to chuckle when I watch the goober televangelists extol the King James Version of the Bible as the absolute truth! The KJV is a beautiful piece of work in the English language, but it is severely handicapped by being hopelessly dated.
!611 is the date it entered our consciousness. That was the date of Shakespeare. Is it difficult to read and understand Shakespeare today? Of course. Language changes and what the editors of the KJV wrote then in meaning might be something entirely different from what we would understand today.
Also, do we adhere to the scientific concepts current in 1611 today? Would you consent to be treated by your doctor using the extent of medical knowledge known in 1611?
Think about it.
