 | GenghisTheHun (177) 02/14/2006 | This is one of those battles that we can barely make out through the mists of time. We know it was fought sometime between 718 and 725 between the remnants of the Christian forces in Spain and the Mohammedan Moorish hordes pouring over from Africa.
The Battle took place in Asturias, the only place not conquered by the Moors and the Moors were defeated. It was the start of the Reconquista that would not end until the fall of Granada in 1492 and the last Moorish holding in Spain eliminated. A great church stands on the spot and the Covadonga rings loundly in the history and culture of Spain.
