 | GenghisTheHun (181) 07/25/2006 | Today is July 25 and on this day in 1814, British and American forces fought the Battle of Lundy's Lane in present day Niagara Falls, Ontario, during the War of 1812 .
This is the bloodiest battle ever fought in Canada. The forces saw almost 20% dead or wounded out of a total of 7000 soldiers for both opponents at the start of the struggle.
This battle is the reason Canada is not part of the USA. The battle ended being an American tactical victory but a British strategic victory as the American forces retreated across the Niagara river, due to lack of supplies, and never again threatened Canada.
