 | westral (0) 05/11/2007 | Reckoned by some to be a "pounder" and probably was when it was needed. But when his victories at Vicksburg and Chatanooga are included the picture changes. Basically Grant meant business and the business at hand was defeating the rebel forces. And that's what he did.

The only thing he did have was a huge manpower advantage that he used to grind the south down because he certainly couldn't take Lee on equal terms. The only thing he really had going for him was the will to take heavy casulties despite what the public was saying aobut him and stick it out to the bitter, nasty end.
