Jesus--Since Jesus was a man, could he sin? 1

No. Had Jesus sinned, He would have not been perfect. But He was perfect, and as such, He could not sin more than God Himself could not sin.

Jesus--Since Jesus was a man, could he sin? 2

Could have, yes... but he didn't. He was tempted - (man) - but never sinned - (God).

Christ was true God and true man according to the various creeds of the early church. That means that he could sin. If he couldn't sin, he was not true man.

If Jesus was in deed human, then of course he had the ability to sin. His decisions to avoid temptation are what makes him who he is.

Why does the Bible say "..God cannot be tempted by evil " in James 1:13? Jesus is God."..he who has seen Me has seen the Father."John.14:9. In Romans 1:22,23 God is called the "incorruptible God" if God or Jesus who is also God could sin then He could not be"incorruptible".Go to the dictionary if you have to look up "incorruptible".

These verses in Romans 1:22,23 says that "men who think they are wise but they are really fools, that these men have exchanged the true image of God for one that is corruptible."

Jesus is perfectly holy and there is no desire in Him but for holiness, therefore sin is not enticing to Him, temptation doesn't tempt Him, He simply has not the slightest desire for sin within himself neither can anything create that desire in Him.

Someone can bring as many temptations to Jesus as they like and present them Him but that's it, Jesus does not find them tempting. Jesus humanity did not make Him weak in the sense that now He found it harder to resist sin because he had a human body.

His body was holy and pure it had no evil desires and his body could not influence His holy nature in any negative way.Jesus submitted to the will of the Father to have a human body and experience human life with it's limitations, needs, desires, food ,rest, work, sleep, joys, trials, etc.. to offer Himself in that body a sacrifice for sins and destroy evil over those who accept His offer of salvation.Hebrews 10:5-10

When the Bible refers to Jesus as being tempted it means the temptation was presented to Him but it does not mean Jesus found the temptation tempting ! People can get deceived when they misunderstand verses that seem to them to say Jesus was tempted and found temtation tempting! Such as in verses like Hebrews 4:15,3:18, Matthew 4:1, etc...

I AM who I AM, God is who He is and He is eternal and unchangeable, if He had the possibility of sinning in Himself then He would be changeable. God does not have even the slightest possibility of changing in anyway or sinning in anyway. This is one big reason why He is worshipped day and night in heaven, God's unchangeable holiness. Malachi 3:6 ,Hebrews 13:8 ,Revelation 4:8

Conclusion : Jesus has no weaknesses, He cannot desire to sin, Jesus cannot be tempted to sin according to James 1:13 and the scripture cannot be broken according to John 10:35.

illusionbuster... you got it right. The temptation was presented to Him and not accepted by Him. The prayer in the garden of Gethsemne is about something other than sin though. He wasn't tempted by fear of human death, as so many people think. He knew that by death on the cross and defeating death, ( which is Satan ), He would have to drink the cup of wrath. The cup of wrath is what the truly evil will experience at the final trump and it will be the final death; death of the souls who left their first habitat. God never wanted to kill 1/3 of His own children. He knew there was no turning back after His own sacrifice.

Yes, Jesus could have sinned, but no he did not sin. I think before the question gets pondered too much we need to define exactly what we mean by sin and sin nature and many of the terms that we throw around. The Bible never uses the term sin nature (despite the NIV's faulty rendering of the Greek word sarx which is translated rightfully as flesh in most translations). It was not his divinity that stopped him from sinning either. He lived out what it means to be fully human made in the image of God and he did so completely. To sin is to miss the mark on what God has created us to be and that is humans that are created in his image. The word for sin in Hebrew and Greek means "to miss the mark." He did not sin and he did it in his humanity. Jesus was fully God and fully man and this is a mystery, but it is dangerous, theologically at least, to lessen one of these aspects at the expense of the other. The Church historically condemned both Nestorianism (which emphasized his humanness at the cost of his divinity) and doceticism (which emphasized his divinity at the cost of his humanity). Both are considered heretical and so it is better just to accept the fact that some things are a mystery.

Jesus was without sin because of his dual nature, being fully divine and fully human at once. He had it in Him to do evil as all men do, but His divinity kept Him pure and without blemish. The perfect substitution.

Of course he could of. . .but Yeshua (according to doctrine) had a habit of recognizing situations that might tempt him to sin and he seemed to deal with situations immediately. (Get behind me Satan. ..) I don't see the dispute- I don't see how anyone can deny his humanity.

In actual fact, Jesus was not a man. He was Jesus (the Spirit of the Son of God) in a man's body. So Jesus couldn't sin because it is impossible for God to give into temptation. But as far as Jesus' carnal body is concerned, it may have been possible for His carnal body to sin, although it was born without sin or defect. Because the carnal mind is weak, and the body could have given into extreme pressure. But what stopped Jesus' carnal body from giving into sin was His Almighty Spirit and good character. I'm not saying His carnal body could give into sin, I'm saying, without Jesus in that body, it may have been, under extreme pressure. But His carnal body, unlike ours, wasn't inclined to sin because it didn't have the curse in the same way we do. It was weak, but didn't have any sin. So there is a strong possibility that even His carnal body wouldn't have been able to sin.
