If they are qualified for the job, I see no problem.

Never a good idea in my opinion. Nepotism always seems to result.

It's one thing to hire them if they're qualified; it's an entirely different matter to hire them if they aren't.

Just because someone's a relative doesn't mean they can do the job, necessarily. I know that in some instances good workers are sometimes let go so a family member can have that job.

It depends on who it is and how they do their job. Some come through and work just as hard as others. Then there are the other ones. I had the good luck of being stuck with one of these. Years ago I worked for a company that a man started on his own. WEll all of his kids worked for him including his youngest and only daughter."Missy"she was the apple of daddy's eye and could do wrong. she was a spoiled brat. who boasted that she could never be fired becaused her daddy owned the company. If she did not like someone they were the subject at the dinner table that night, and usually that employee would either get accused of not doing their job or even fired. Almost no one truely liked this brat, but some were willing to kiss her rearend and pretend they liked her{ then cut her down behind her back}eventually she even told daddy that she must be a supervisor to look important so daddy insisted that one of the bigger supervisors give Missy a few employees to work under her to boss around. {lucky them} Eventually daddy decided to retire and even sell the company to a bigger company that sold the same product. What a surprise, when daddy left, Missy decided to leave too. Wonder why?So it does not get my goat when a person hires a relative as long as they do their job and do not get special privelages, fine with me. But if you get stuck with a Missy look out.

Depends. I got hired by my brother to work in Satellite and due to his intensive training and my monster aptitude from my Jarhead days I'm more qualified than any fool you can hire elsewhere. All the same he didn't hire our other brother because he wasn't a good fit. Make sure you aren't hiring morons when you hire family, because they are harder to get rid of.

Well in the beginning when I met my husband, he had just been released from jail, and had a hard time finding a job. His brother in law hired him, and I don't think anyone had a problem, because he was a hard worker. It doesn't get my goat unless the person is worthless and the people don't have the guts to tell them so. Same with just about anyone else. One thing that does get my goat however is having 3 bosses, all brothers and none of them can get the rules straight. I've been in that situation before and everytime one comes around, the rules change until the next one comes around. I quit that job in a hurry, only after telling them what I thought of course...

I've been in this situation to many times, and it's always ugly. You're stuck working with someone who usually can't (or just won't) do the job, and there's nothing you can do about it. It's incredibly frustrating to be stuck in this situation.

(5=doesn't bother me necessarily) It all depends on whether or not said relative is qualified or not. I currently work with one of my boss's daughters, and she's great. If they're unqualified, though, that can be a real pain, since you know the likelihood of them getting canned in the near future is significantly less than if they were a regular hire.
