I actually enjoyed his performances in the "Sherlock Holmes" series with Nigel Bruce. He was a great heavy as in "Robin Hood" where he played the Sherrif of Nottingham. Unfortunately most of his work was in "B" movies.

With the exception of his Sherlock Holmes movies, he was one of the best bad guys of his era, and a very consistantly good actor. Errol Flynn kicked his ass though in "Robin Hood".
