Never a 5 Star actor, but his longevity has made him somewhat a work horse in films. He's made 148 appearances, which says something. He's done leads and, as CS has stated, has been a reliable character actor. As rigor mortis sets in, the industry pays homage to him, as they do with all journeymen actors by relegating him to what I call "and roles". This is when they run the credits...stars first...then the rest of the cast...and the last credit is...and...Donald Sutherland, which means we're gonna, pretty much, see a sit-down role....usually some preachy, over-the-hill wise bird. I'm kinda hoping that Sutherland has one last shot of piss and vinegar in him...

I wish I could have seen him at the Shakespearean Festival in Stratford.. i hear he's a fantastic stage actor. I enjoy all his movies and would go to a theatre to see him.. and/or his son Keifer (Three Musketeers, anyone?)

Love him for "Ordinary People"; also "Don't Look Now". (Like his more contemporary roles a bit less ...).

A fine character actor who is mainly playing rich, powerful bad guys these days.

One of my favorites. Always pretty good. I especially liked him as the pragmatic Soviet colonel (with an underlying smart-ass sense of humor) trying to find a serial killer in 'Citizen X.' Also very good as the upper class fool who gets taken in by a con artist in 'Six Degrees of Separation.'

Almost always turns in a quality performance. Not very exciting, though.

Good voice. . .strong presence as an actor. . .is very good at 'creepy old guy' roles. Underrated supporting actor.

The only thing I know about him, is that he went to my high school growing up, and graduated from it.
