 | DrEntropy (38) 05/27/2008 | Talented, but a tad over-rated. Played a picture-perfect Idi Amin (simulataneously child-like and terrifying) but has flopped like a beached whale in earlier roles. Seems to be getting better as he gets older, which is unusual for an actor-usually they just get pretentious with wealth and fame and end up playing themselves instead of the part (e.g. Jack Nicolson, Al Pacino).

 | jnkberns (3) 03/10/2008 | I don't buy it. I've seen his stuff, he's a decent actor, but nothing special. He only won an award because he's black.

 | SilverFox (26) 08/06/2007 | A talented actor who has finally gotten the recognition he has long deserved. I remember him from his impressive performance years ago in The Crying Game, a very effective, disturbing role. His performance as musician Charlie Parker in the Clint Eastwood-directed film, Bird, was highly praised and earned him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe nomination. And his role in King of Scotland, for which he won the Oscar for Best Actor, was almost larger than life, at once an engaging yet terrifying personality. His intense preparation for his roles and immersion into his characters is legendary, equaling if not exceeding that of Daniel Day-Lewis.

 | jaywilton (26) 07/30/2007 | Probably my favorite movie of the recent past was Whitaker as Idi Amin in 'The Last King Of Scotland'.After I saw it,I rented 'Bird'.At his best,he's tough to beat for anybody.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 07/30/2007 | Solid listing. . .Whitaker's career snuck up on most movie-goers. . .he was the football player from "Fast Times at Ridgemount High" and a soldier in "Platoon" and built a career out of solid supporting roles in a diverse set of films from "Good Mornig Vietnam" to "Panic Room" - of course, his crowning achievement was "The Last King of Scotland" - like tan slacks, Whitaker seems to go with everything.

 | GenghisTheHun (168) 12/12/2005 | Black character actor appearing in several films. Look for him in "Good Morning Vietnam," "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "Platoon," "Species," et al.
