Anthony Quinn was so good at playing ethnic types that it wasn't until late in his career that I found out he was Mexican. When he played Zorba he was a Greek. He played Mexicans, American Indians, Lot's of Italians, Arabs, and even Asians. Many of his roles featured him as a "heavy" and he was very good at it. He and Omar Sharrif were outstanding in Lawrence of Arabia. The movie made in Italy "La Strada" (1954) was a good one too. There weren't many movies where he was the star but he was great as best supporting actor. He was quite a talented artist also.

Here was an actor who could play towards type and against type. He had as many varied roles as anyone in Hollywood.

Quinn's line in Zorba the Greek: When a woman calls a man and he does not go, that is the greatest sin. Even though he did so many movies he always seem to choose scripts carefully. One of the greats.
