	irishgit (137) 04/02/2008	CanadaSucks review below is top-notch, and goes a lot deeper than the LOTR Gandalf stuff which usually gets bandied about. His performance in Richard III is rivetting, the best I have seen in that role, and his lesser known work is almost without exception excellent. 	CanadaSucks (45) 07/27/2007	His openly-gay political activism kept him out of large Hollywood productions (for some time) despite having a solid career in England as a member of the RSC. . .Was a good MacBeth in a Trevor Nunn production with Judi Dench. . .and terrific in a film version of Richard III. . .solid Shakespearean actor with (obviously) big-budget Hollywood roles to play. . .solid performer. . .and it's nice to see that his talent finally made him too good to pass up for film roles- but make no mistake, it took Hollywood a few years to digest such an open activist. . .I think his body of work is very impressive and (best of all) never, ever gave a shite about what anyone thought of him. . .who better to play Gandalf? 	Evenstar (0) 07/05/2006	Sir Ian Mckellen is an amazing theatrical actor with a commanding presence on the stage and screen. His charm and talent is undeniable. From Lord of the Rings to the X Men series , Gods and Monsters, Jack and Sarah, The Last Action Hero, Apt Pupil, and most recently The Da Vinci Code. He has been in so many great movies its no wonder he is a household name. I have countless movies of his in my collection, which is one of the many reasons why I look on him fondly as one of my all time favorite actors.
