Baptism of the Holy Spirit takes place the moment a person is born again. It takes place without any input or action from the believer.

I believe you are Baptized in the Spirit, when you give your life to Christ. Christ said when he was on the earth, He cannot be with us in the physical sense, but He sends the Holy Spirit to us. The Holy Spirit works in your life in many ways and unless you experience Salvation it is very hard to explain. In short I would say that the Holy Spirit helps, guides and Rebukes you as you live and breathe in Christ. If you understand the trinity, then you will understand what or who the Holy Spirit is. I do not feel that the Holy Spirit is an after salvation experience, as I feel the Bible does not point that way at all. There are different views and I feel you have to come to your own understanding through salvation and good healthy study of Gods word. This is a great question!!!Updated 2:45pm

As I understand it, it's supposed to be the point when you come into full faith/realization in/of God. The moment when your eyes are opened to the truth. It seems that Evangelicals and Pentacostals tend to think of it as one big mind blowing experience. Personally, I think it's a life long journey with moments of clarity. It's probably both.

Good topic, and, difficult to explain, especially to those who haven't experienced it. When you are baptized with water, it signifies the death of the old life and beginning of a new one, just as at birth... you are born from a sack of water. The person who submerged you and presented you to The Lord, did not do the baptizing. He or she only obeyed The Lord in performing the ceremony. The Lord, Himself baptizes with fire. God is a consuming fire.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the power of God indwelling the believer, empowering the believer to be a witness to the Gospel message through thir daily walk. It is strength to persevere in the face of hardship, it is love for the unlovable, it is mercy to those in need, it is kindness in the face of hate. It is letting Christ work His will through your life, being His hands, feet, heart, and voice. It manifests itself in kindness, charity, a gentle word to calm anger, all those intangibles that make a person good in the eyes of God that we cannot achieve on our own, those little things that God works through us.

Very nice answer Gentle Jude UPDATE: IJR-- You cannot experience the Holy Spirit until you have repented of sin and accepted the gift of God through grace through the his blood on the cross. You must first seek Jesus. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. It is not a feeling. Feelings can play you false. It is meeting the Truth and understanding it. As long as you do not acknowledge Christ as the son of God. Then you cannot receive the Holy Spirit. Don't base your evidence for God on a feeling....search your heart and hand it over to Him.

I've been baptised in the Holy Spirit, when I was at camp one summer. It was the most amazing experience I've ever had. I just felt God's presence in every partof me and I couldn't help but smile. I felt so close to him at that moment, like I could reach out and touch him. I was having a really hard week, and that just refreshed me.

It is the submersion of our spirits into the intimate Presence of the Holy Spirit. It isn't just merely feeling His presence, it is when your spirit is submerged into Him. Baptism means to submerge. Some denominations eg the Charismatic (Pentecostal) believe it happens at a point in your Christian life, and it is a continual thing. But some denominations believe this happens as soon as you give your life to Jesus. I believe that both are true. You are baptised in the Spirit as soon as you give your heart and life to Jesus, and if you ask for it, you will be continually filled with the Spirit. Apostle Paul tells us not to get drunk with much wine, but instead, be constantly filled with the Holy Spirit.
